[Kotaku] Valve ‘Probably’ Done With Single-Player Games - Page 12

Single player has no replay value, you play through it once and that's it. Great you can change the difficulty, but that doesn't add anything to the story you've played already. Unless there is new DLC and you can play through further or something then it makes sense.

it'd be cool if they did it like portal 2 with a regular single player campaign and a completely different co-op campaign. like a blue shift type thing where you play as different characters, or like the splitscreen half life decay for ps2 where you play as those two other scientists from blue shift.

That's subjective.

I could probably play Fallout 3 and STALKER SoC dozens of times each, and it would be a different game each time. Call of Pripyat looks like it fits that bill, as well as Mass Effect. I've played my favorite old CRPG game from 1992 numerous times over almost 2 decades. I'm dos boxing it right now. A good single player game has replay value beyond the repetition of multiplayer.

The things I remember most are always single player games. Multiplayer is awesome, but it is hardly memorable.

[Kotaku] Valve ‘Probably’ Done With Single-Player Games
Then I'm "Probably" Done With Valve.

There are very few games that i enjoy or prefer Multiplayer the three games that i own that i prefer Multi-Player are L4D, L4D2 and BFBC2. Granted two of them are Valve games, but i like to play the single-player on all three of those as well, L4D when i dont want to deal with Idiots, and BFBC2 when i want to be an Original American Badass.

valve knows multiplayer online games require genuine copy of the game to play so people can't pirate them and play online with other player, It's Good move in my opinion.
I was watching a video when they talked about the top 10 concerns about what they worry about making a game, and none of them were piracy, If I recall correctly, Gabes vision is essentially making a game so that its to good not to buy. Besides, It happens and will happen, even multiplayer games are pirated, and played on hacked/cracked servers. Sometimes even allowed on normal servers.

Personally, I think it's because less people are interested in single player games these days, online connectivity is where its at currently.... I mean look how many people plug into facebook or other social networking sites.

And aside from hl2 and a few other select games, I will ALWAYS prefer coop with a buddy over the single player by itself. I think majority of others feel the same way.

Edit* I think i'm the only one who read that in the way that, singleplayer is the same but others can join in much like diablo series? If anything Gabe threw that out there so he could see what the response would be like, thats an option too. Valve has always been more about the customer and gamer than the other company's, online time will tell.

Well thats just my 2c

I'm tired of the focus on the MP.

I want a 50 hour SP that is immersive, and well designed.

50 hours isn't enough. I started off PC gaming with oblivion. Took 200h to complete all major quest lines. Those were the days. I've yet to find another game that would capture my heart so.

What the f*** are you talking about? Where did it mention anything about Xbox?

Really, what are you talking about? I can't make out your second sentence/paragraph.

Honestly, I have no problem with this as LONG as it doesn't affect the quality of Valve's single-player experiences. A multiplayer mode in Half Life 3 is not that big of a deal, imo.
