If you can guarantee me a steady stream of awesome, insightful and dedicated-to-the-experience team mates, then sign me up. Otherwise, for the love of god, please keep making isolated single player games where I can enjoy your world and narrative.
Isn't SP a bit predictable to you though? The AI in most games are horrible. Having to do things a certain way gets boring after awhile. Once you've finished the game, what do you do? Play it again?
There's just something so hilarious about hearing your friend cry out as you kill him in a video game. It's not the same killing a NPC.

How I wish I could rep you!

I agree almost completely, I only really enjoy multiplayer if it's with my real life friends, and being able to discuss that game you had last night when you next see them in real life.

When I play single player it's like reading a book; I want to get lost in this alternate world which I can explore and get immersed in, with characters that are compelling and believable that I actually want to save or whatever.

I doubt this is true anyways. I'll believe it when it comes straight from Gabe's mouth (unless he's chowing on a burger). If Valve is done with singleplayer games then I'M done with Valve.

But that's the problem.

Multiplayer games are great for messing around and having fun because they have no plot to destroy. Single player games are experiences where I want to exist within their world during the duration of the events that are supposed to unfold. What is the point of putting yourself into a game world where the characters are always amusingly pointing out that it is just a game world? Or at best, acting like your friends instead of the characters in the game world.

This 1000 times.... They can't leave that game incomplete, they just can't. I can't take it. I've been waiting for sooo long, through Portals, L4D and a sequel to each!

I guess if you're playing something like Oblivion or Assassin's Creed you'd want to be immersed into it. I prefer fps games though so you can still pretend you're a squad and work together as one. BF2/BC2 has objectives and each game ends up different.

I just had this mental image of a pair of people playing different campaigns in the same or completely different games, and at the end of a very story-driven level, they end up crossing paths and being one-another's mutual boss fight.

The game wouldn't end if you failed; the story would follow slightly different branches depending on the outcome of the fight.

...

It looked pretty cool in my head.
