you'd freak if you saw my comp i'm using now, my core hits over 90C and nothing can be done about it no matter what cooler you use or if you lapp it the temps are the same it hits 80C under stock everything, no matter the cooler.

Also Cofer try with out the sound card couldn't hurt any thing and in the off chance thats helps figure any thing out. I can't think of reason to not try it.

Games only.

Notice, however, that I've said it still happened with my onboard audio and two other cards, those being a cheap c-media one I had laying around and an X-fi Xtreme Gamer card, and now my Xonar D1.

These cards share nothing in common. I find it hard to believe audio could be the culprit in my case.

Must be one horrible chip.. I doubt it's going to last more than a few months at those temperatures.

That's what I've been saying... You should pay some attention, because the quick HyperPi test was for memory.

Are you sure ?! A memory test made in only 25 minutes shows that ... ?!
What shows such a test mate?!
A memory error can be triggered in specific conditions ,which that test may not show in 25 minutes .
I thought memory is tested using Memtest , but if you say HyperPi tests the memory better in 25 minutes what do i know.
This guy wants a PC for the long run not for short bench runs. This means 16+ hours of usage ,this means REAL memory testing for HOURS.

I know that a 25 minute test isnt enough, but HyperPi is sensitive enough to crash/get an error at the smallest memory/cpu instability. He already said he did multiple passes of Memtest, but is going to leave it overnight.

Sometimes HyperPi can error because of unstable memory when 10+ hours of Memtest didnt get a single error.

This tests don t exclude each other and they also don t tell you that the memory is 100% ok .

That CPU should be installed in a known to work AM3 system ,simple as that as the issue can be generated by anything.
I had a similar problem and i ve changed practically all the PC components to get rid of it
