Intel Upgrade due to freezing. - Page 2

It's your memory, I had the same problem and sure enough I had a bad stick. Take them all out run on only one. It wouldn't show up on memtest but every 30 mins - 2 hours it would completely lock up. No blue screen or anything.

This.

Even though the freezing continued after performing a fresh install on a new drive, there is the possibility that maybe this is being caused by something that is installed and perhaps always running.

Like i said earlier, I already replaced the sticks thinking it was that as well.. in fact i used 3 different brands of ddr3 mem 1333. and it kept happening so its not that.

Its not software because i had vista originally and it happened then i upgraded to 7 and it still happened then I got a SSD and now i have a clean windows 7 install with hardly any software on it at all other then the OS.. its still happening.

When you say "hardly any software", can you remember what was installed (that is, in addition to Windows).

Also, I am still curious about the time when the system was working just fine (I asked a few posts above). What was different about that time period?

I should also specify my backround , I have build 10+ home systems and i have CompTIA A+ cert (which is crap i know) i'm just saying i do have some knowhow of troubleshooting and i'm simply at a loss. Only conclusion i can reach is defective MB, CPU or PSU everything else i have ruled out through trail and error over the last year or so.

What I'm getting at is this:

Back when it was working fine, were you living in a different place at that time? Or has this system been using the exact same outlet all this time - even back when it was working perfectly?

I get what you are saying but i honestly don't remember since i built it if it was EVER stable to where it wouldn't freeze every few hours. I have since moved it twice to 2 different houses with the same results. It works and works very fast for about 1-2 hours .. then just freezes out of nowhere. Its not the power to the PSU cause like i said its been in 3 houses one of which is a brand new house in different areas of town too...

I have to admit that I am suspecting the motherboard because it has the nForce chipset.

So I mean, I would like to see it get replaced with perhaps a good P45 board (and not just because that's the chipset I have).

1) In my head, "Intel Upgrade due to freezing" == "I'm running a military-class near-absolute-zero cooling system right now and an AMD CPU, problem is, the AMD chip has a very low TDP and as such, the CPU always gets frozen. I need to upgrade to Intel (hopefully hotter) so my cooling isn't wasted"... so i went o_O and clicked....

2) Since you are fairly convinced that it is software, I'd say do a mobo/PSU change first of all. Also, when the system hangs, how are the temps on all components? Maybe a case of misapplied TIMs or components not properly seated???? These are usual causes of random freezes... (minus absolute zero cooling solutions of course )
