Cannot overclock i7 920 D0 - Page 2

My 920 d0 takes 1.375vcore to be stable at 4ghz and if I want 4.2 it takes 1.475.

If I were you I'd up vcore, some guys get 4ghz at super low voltages yet others like me and perhaps you get not so good chips that need more juice.

Had it running fine for over 1.5 years at 4ghz both on air and water with that voltage and its still going strong.

EDIT :

Also noticed I have the same mobo as you so thought it post my main settings in case it helps.

20x multi

200bclk

1.375vcore

Qpi pll 1.18v

Ioh core 1.22v

Ich I/o 1.5v

Ich core 1.22v

Got the qpi multi at the lowest too

If there's any other settings you need I can tell you them

LinX finished and it passed... and I think the Vcore is low but since it passed it is good no? (See CPU-Z)

Any opinions on what to do next?

Thanks

So...you're stable now?

If not, try setting the CPU PLL to 1.5

Yes, CPU is stable at 1.275V Vcore. I also ran also IntelBurnTest and passed 3 tests on maximum. However still with 1.34 QPI, so will lower that to 1.25V and see what happens from there. Also the RAM is still at 6.0... I wanna get it to 8.0...

any ideas how to go about it?

Just a quick question...

I ran memtest86+ during the night with stock settings but RAM at 1600MHz to know it can take it... After over 8 hours and 14 passes there were no errors so I thought that was enough.

Now I reapplied the last stable settings which were QPI 1.34 and Vcore 1.275V and ran memtest86+ again with memory multiplier set to 8.0 and DRAM to 1.66V... ran 2 passes without problems.

Then I decided to start from scratch and follow tats's guide which is great. I still left the Vcore at 1.275V which is my stable, but reduced the QPI to 1.2V from 1.34V as he suggested. I made the uncore x16 which is what he suggested as well (2x the memory multiplier you want to achieve), and for the first test I left the memory multiplier to 6.0 to achieve a stable cpu first. CPU clock is 21x and BCLK is 191 so running at 4GHz.

I opened up IntelBurnTest, set it to 3 runs on maximum stress level as the guide suggested and it passed with no errors. Does this mean that I have found a stable CPU overclock?

Also what I don't know, in IntelBurnTest, I left the number of threads to Auto. Is that good or should I change it to something else?

Thanks

I would go for at least 10 runs once you think you have found your final OC - although I usually lower things and then do 5ish runs until I get a BSOD and then bump up a notch or two.

Set the threads on 8 in IBT

I had to increase my QPI to 1.22V as IntelBurnTest failed.

It ran 5 loops at maximum with 8 threads and passed successfully.

Do I need to test with LinX? I will leave it on prime95 blend when I find my optimal settings, which right now are good I think (the lowest I can go).

IOH is set to 1.1V as you suggested (only 1 PCIe graphics card)
QPI is set to 1.22V
VCore is set to 1.275V (If I go one notch lower prime95 blend failed on one thread after 16.5 hours)
Uncore is 16x (like you suggested cause I want to run the Memory at 8.0)
BCLK is 191
Multiplier is 21x

What do you suggest I do to bump the ram to 8.0 besides DRAM at 1.66V (running at 6.0 right now)? Cause this part is always giving me problems... crashes, freezes, etc (never a BSOD though). Also could it freeze because the QPI was too high?

Thanks

I tried to just increase the SPD and running the same settings as above (increased DRAM to 1.66V)... IntelBurnTest passed 5 loops on maximum and threads 8, but LinX is failing on the second loop.

Increasing the QPI is actually worse cause it freezes the pc (only tried up to 1.26).

Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks

Got a real problem now...

just realized that I had the Timing selectable on auto and CPU-Z read the memory at 10-11-11-21 :/

I want them 8-8-8-24 like they were made to... So I selected Quick and inputted those values...

however now I can't get it to stay in desktop for more than 5 seconds of IntelBurnTest, sometimes it freezes before going to the desktop.

What should I do? Is it a matter of increasing the QPI/VTT? Cause I am up to 1.4 and no change...

How much is safe? And is there any other setting I can tweak to get it right?

Please I really need help

If the memory Controller is on the CPU and the memory wants to run faster shouldn't you up the voltage on the CPU? Maybe that's why i need my vcore so high coz i run my ram at 8 8 8 20?
