Just install 64-bit Ubuntu and then do the following:

1) Create a folder on your desktop and name it "fah"

2) If using Ubuntu, in terminal enter
Code:
wget http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/release/FAH6.34-Linux64-SMP.exe

3) In terminal, move the file downloaded to the folder you created on the desktop
Code:
mv FAH6.34-Linux64-SMP.exe ~/Desktop/fah/

4) Raname the file to "fah.exe"

5) Go to the file properties then under the "Permissions" tab, check "Allow executing file as a program" then click "Close"

Now, here is how to run it:

1) Enter this in terminal
Code:
cat /proc/stat | awk 'BEGIN { TARGET_NCPUS=8 } ; { if ($1 == "intr") { for (i=NR-2;i<TARGET_NCPUS;i++) print "cpu" i S } ; S="" ; for (i=2;i<=NF;i++) S=S " " $i ; print }' > /tmp/stat.save

and then this
Code:
sudo mount --bind /tmp/stat.save /proc/stat

2) Navigate to the folder in terminal
Code:
cd ~/Desktop/fah/

3) Now you can run the FAH client
Code:
./fah.exe -smp 6 -bigadv

Now the client should be running, just enter in the data and you should be set. With the A5 core, you should be able to complete all -bigadv WUs with ease. A 3.5GHz OC should be more than enough but >3.8GHz is recommended.

This is just a modified version of JedixJarf's 2500K guide to suit a GUI so less has to be done through command line.

I kinda said that.

Your way is really long though; when I tried it in Ubuntu, I downloaded the file, doubleclicked it to install, then reconfigured (since it uses default info first). And I was done.

I was totally gonna ignore the -bigadv for now and stick with just the small ones. Now that you have simplified the matter, Im thinking of doing it...thanks I guess...

Seriously though thanks will do this. Gotta wait for the current clients to finish then I can.

Do not have any aftermarket cooling for the six core. So will stock 2.8GHz be ok for the -Bigadv?

@ 2.8Ghz, you might be running too close to the deadline. Not only would this result in lower points, but also the risk that you might miss the deadline if anything goes wrong, resulting in no points for you, and no results for Stanford.

For a stock CPU, stick with SMP.

2.8GHz is would be close, try to overclock on stock volts and see if you can't get 3.5-3.6GHz. With the A5 core in native linux, that should make deadline no sweat.

Ok so gonna stick with the regular v7 stuff for now. Got some problems though.

I tried to have one smp running on 5 cores so I could do GPU as well. But the only options it gives me is 2,4, or 6. So I chose 4 for now. why?

Also, I tried through lil'chris "how to" to get the fahcore 16 on my 5830. It gave me a weird error saying "fahcore_16.exe - entry point not found" then said failed. for now I got it on regular units. How do I fix that?

My goal is to have SMP on 5 cores and fahcore 16 on my 5830. thanx. I will have to save up for a cooler to get the -bigadv working.

You can manually type 5 instead of pressing the up/down arrow.
I have a feeling I know why it goes in multiples of 2 and it has something to do with odd numbers instantly failing a few selected work units.

No idea what that error is.

Yeah, but -smp 3 and -smp 7 (dunno about -smp 5; that's a silly number) rarely gave the errors; it was more the bigger numbers.
