So I just got my Xonar ST...

Thread Starter
and I have a few questions before I install everything.

According to my motherboard manual my graphics card and my sound card share an IRQ assignment. I don't really have any options since I have only one x16 PCI-e and two PCI slots and I end up blocking the first PCI slot with my GPU.
Is this going to be a problem??

I've searched around this forum a bit and unified drivers for ASUS cards have been suggested. I'm going to be running headphones and 2.0 speakers. Should I install the unified drivers or would I be better off running default ASUS drivers?

And finally, I'd like to run both headphones and 2.0 speakers. Is it possible to have different settings like EQ bound to each? How would I switch between the two outputs without having to unplug anything or mess with lots of settings/restart?

I'm really not sure about the shared IRQ, for some reason I'm suspecting it won't be a problem and windows/mobo can deal with it.

I've tried the UNI-Drivers and the ASUS ones that came with the card and now I have the Daniel K WHQL ones - just because they seem to do ASIO and WSAPI correctly and the others don't.

You can't assign a different EQ to each output, you'd need to switch between two custom EQ's when you switched between Headphone and speakers in the XonarAudioCenter. You won't have to unplug/restart ect., each has its own socket(s) and you switch between them in the software.

I checked it out.
However I'm still confused as to what exactly are the benefits/weaknesses to using the ASUS drivers instead of the alternatives for someone like me who's only using headphones and 2.0.

I went with the Daniel K ones because the ASIO and WASAPI seemed to be fixed, the Uni-Drivers have low-latency options if your after that, otherwise I'm not sure there's any difference. They're supposedly all better optimised than each other for sound quality, ect. but I've not noticed a difference between them.

Low latency seems interesting,
on the unified drivers site it says that the disadvantages of Low DPC latency mode is that GX is fully disabled.

What is GX and would I miss it?

I don't think you'll miss it, its supposed to replicate/use/intercept Creatives EAX (3D spacial effects in games), which apparently doesn't work in win7 anyway. I still leave it turned on for some reason even though I wouldn't notice a difference with it off. I'm pretty sure you won't be having any high latency issues on your rig though.
