HAF X - fit a 360 top and 120/40 bottom radiator?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Quick question. I'm thinking of finally upgrading to water cooling. I'm going to need a new case. I'm thinking the HAF X might fit my needs perfectly.

My only question: can I easily fit a 360 mm top mounted radiator and a 120 or 140 mm rad at the bottom?

It looks like I could, and I've seen some mods of a 240 mm in the bottom. However, I'm looking to be able to somewhat easily mount the rads with little modification.
Thank you.

Yes - I actually have a 360 up top, 120 rear, and 240 on the bottom with no modding. Overkill is underrated yessir.gifthumb.gif
granted I have the 932, but it should be pretty much exactly the same

Yes a 360 will fit in the top nicely however you will probably lose the use of the two top 5.25' bays due to the rads size. I am not sure how tommy got a 240 in the bottom without modding and cutting the bottom half of the hdd cage out. The X is slightly smaller than the 932 some people have had clearance issues with larger rads in the top hitting heatsinks on ram and mobos so you might wanna do some measurements beforehand.

You can also put a 120 in the bottom if you dont want to cut the hdd cage. I only say a 120 because I havnt seen many good 140 mm fans out there.

Thanks!

So, would the 932 perhaps be a better choice than the X? I'm not particularly married to either one -- I just thought the HAF series seemed to be a good balance between usability/weight/and cost. The only real difference I can discern between the two is that the HAF X appears to have some sort of ESATA bay.

So, maybe that would be a better choice

And the only 140 mm fan I've ever bought was broken on arrival. I couldn't bring myself to RMA the darned thing though.

it's a hell of a tight fit, I'll take a picture if you're curious. It's standing up next to the drive bay cages. Having fans on it, along with fairly long graphics cards (470s) is cutting it close and it was really interesting getting it in there, but it worked. The rad I use there though (XSPC RX240) is fairly thick, and using a smaller one would make for a much easier setup.

And yes, ark is right that you lose drive bay space up top with a 360 rad, but in my 932 I only lost the very top drive bay, not the second one. But again, how much space you lose depends on the thickness of the particular rad you mount up top, and the thickness of the fans on it.

I have an MCR320 up top which is fairly thin (the RX series, by comparison is a lot thicker), and my second to top most component in the drive bay is a fan controller, which only goes about a third of the way back into the bay. I don't know if a regular 5.25" bay component like a DVD drive would fit, I don't remember if I tried, but I like having my fan controller up top anyways so it worked for me.

I'd definitely recommend 120mm rads over 140s, simply because there's so little fan selections for 140mm. And like I mentioned in my last post, it's possible to mount a 120mm or 140mm rad in place of the rear exhaust, which doesn't require any modding at all.

hope all this info helps

I love the X for the all black interior the silver 932 is kinda eh aesthetically. But I can always paint it if I ever get that motivated. Dont know much about the esata bay or if people ever really use them.

Also I dont know if you can find the 932 in stock or if you have to buy the new advanced version which is like 40$ more than I got my 932 for a year ago.

And I would like pics of your 240 squeeze tommy lol.

Also I used the RX 360 so i lost both top bays but I can fit my fan controller in the 2nd one due to its limited depth.

If you haven't actually BOUGHT the case, I'd go with the 800D over the HAF X or 932. Here is a pic of my 360 rad in my HAF X. Especially if you're going water cooling right away, the 800D can fit a 360 up top, or 480 with some dremel modding. The bottom also fits a 240 with a small amount of modding.

My HX1000 was too long for a rad in the bottom. A 360+120 weren't enough imo for a i7 930 + GTX480 SLI, so I grabbed a 480.

My new case is massive but about 3x the cost of a HAF X.

GL, PM if you have more questions biggrin.gif

Hmm...thanks for the pics, guys.

Yeah, I was trying to avoid spending the money on the 800D (or TJ107, etc, etc.) From the pics it looks like a 360 would most likely fit in the HAF. However, the expandability would be a bit of work (albeit doable.)

I'm still not sure, lol.

EDIT TO ADD: I'm looking at putting a XSPC RASA 360 RX up top. I'm (fairly) certain I could get a 360 RS up there (from others' posts), but I'm a bit afraid of the RX. Grrrr...I was hoping not to spend a ton on the case, but I may have to, I guess.
