Default G0 Stepping Q6600's

When

According to my Intel rep, G0 stepping Q6600's should be available starting late July. How long it will take for these to trickle into the retail chain is a bit hazy... we'll keep our eyes peeled and let you guys know.

How Much

They will debut after the July 22nd price cut. As most of you have seen by now, that lists the Q6600 at $266. Keep in mind, however, that this price is for OEM Packaged chips, in lots of 1,000 or more, purchased direct from Intel. This is *NOT* MSRP. For reference sake, I can all but guarantee we'll be paying at least $275 for them, and that's before any of our associated costs. Thus, I expect our retail price to be somewhere around $290. I'll know more once the cuts are closer.

Can I reserve one?

Yes - purchase it here.

Keep in mind, however, that there are a few major "catches" to this:

1 -There is no definite ship date, and there will not be one until they arrive in our warehouse.

You're welcome to keep asking us in the meantime if you're bored, but you'll keep hearing that "we don't know" I promise - as soon as we know, you will know. (Ask anyone who has done a pre-order with us... the process may be rocky at times, but we're DARN good at communicating the latest information!)

The big issue is that there will still be old steppings of Q6600's floating around in the distribution chains. Obviously, we have to try and avoid them, which means we can't order right away. I'm betting, however, that demand for these will spike, so existing inventory will be sold out quickly, and a backorder log will grow. Thus, we have to time our purchases to avoid getting old inventory, but not wait so long as to be on a waitlist for a few months. This is a very difficult proposition - so please be patient and understanding!

2 - The actual price of the processor is still a bit uncertain.

I'm guessing between $275 and $295. We won't know for sure until after the price drops take effect, and our suppliers update our pricing schedule. So, you put down your $5 now, and then pay the difference once we know how much that will be, and we're closer to a ship date.

3 - Your Pre-order payment is non-refundable... mostly.

I expect our retail price will be $290. If our price ends up greater than $300, you may opt to cancel your order, and your pre-order payment will be refunded. If, however, our pricing remains below $300, your pre-order payment will not be refunded if you cancel your order.

This pre-order system is a bit - unwieldy - but hopefully it works out. I've been getting a ton of requests for this, so I'm hoping this system gives people the option of reserving a spot, without tying up a ton of cash. Let me know if you have any questions, or comments about how we can improve this sytem, I'm all ears... or should I say eyes?

An amazing stepping on the Core 2 Duo processor that grants you 3.8GHz+ on air cooling. Look in the Overclock News section; there are 3 or 4 reviews on the E6750 which has the G0 Stepping.

And by the way... THANK YOU!! For freaking clarifying to everyone that 266 was NOT the MSRP!

Too many people getting other people's hopes up on this 266.00 price and 40+ can really dissapoint a person on a budget!

I agree. And if people want a good deal they should get an E4300 now for $117 and overclock it to E6600/E6700 speeds.

Nope. Hence part of the difficulty we'll have, and why shipping may take a bit. Intel doesn't really sell directly to anyone by OEMs. So for retail chips, we're all stuck ordering from the distributors, who have thousands of chips on hand at any given time, and thus cannot be bothered to check them. So, it's luck of the draw for us... though there are some tips and tricks I've learned over the years to at least tip the scales in our favor by a bit

Yep, this is a very "annoying" misconception for me, as we get a lot of complaints from people who think we're price gouging.

The main reason people still think it's MSRP is that some retailers do actually sell these chips at/below those prices, because they sell the chips at a loss to bring people onto their site, hoping they'll buy more stuff. In any case, it most certainly is not MSRP, as wholesale costs on these chips is always higher than what those charts say.

Yes. If we don't get G0's, you get your money back.

List isn't very deep, since we just started this. 4 so far, by my count.

As for changing, sure - that doesn't bother me at all. In fact, if any of you opt to cancel your pre-order, I'll let you apply that $5 deposit towards anything else, so long as you order that something else at the same time. (I don't want to have to keep track of a bunch of $5 credits hanging in the wind )
