Default E8400 - Pricing / Availability Update

Intel has *really* squeeze the supply lines on these things. Very few are trickling out into the channel right now, as they are trying to blow out the 65nm chips right now (or so I assume).

As such, I can only reliably get them from one supplier now, and at that, it's rare. They are also charging quite a bit more now, so our price has to move accordingly.

These things will be popping in and out of stock for a while now, and pricing will likely fluctuate quite a bit as well, just so you guys know. I'm going to keep doing my best to get them as quick as possible, and as cheaply as possible.

You MUST use Google Checkout to qualify, use coupon code "E8400" on the Google Checkout screen (not our checkout page).

Enjoy
I thought the street price was supposed to be $199.00..

What's the big deal?

The big deal is that Newegg has it for 225. Tankguys is trying to let you know that they are not inflating the price (as much as the egg) and you can get it for original price w/ google checkout.

Nope, that's a common misconception. There is no official street price or MSRP - prices you see posted are the 1ku tray prices, not single retail box purchase price

FWIW, we're selling these basically at cost. One of our top suppliers is now charging $201 per unit, max 5 per order, as a WHOLESALE cost.

That's outrageous...but you've gotta do what you gotta do. If I was in the market for a E8400 I'd buy it from you guys, but my q6600 is still churning well

Oh yeah, this is my 666 post btw

Basically with the overclocking result of these chips the only reason you might want to get an E8500 is if you watercool and want to squeeze a a few more MHz out of your system. Or you could just wait for a Q9450.

Basically these are $200 4.3GHz (Ultra120X) C2D chips, 10.5s SuperPI 1M, weather or not you think its worth the 2 less cores is up to you (and if you are impatient)

personally by the time any useful programs actually start using all 4 cores Nehalm will be out, and if you are into scientific computing or 3D rendering, there are way better systems than a Core 2 Quad (2x Xeon setup for example)

so wait... why wait for the q9450 again? said so yourself.. quad really wont be taken advantage of until around the time of nehalem. why waste your money on a q9450? pointless (unless youre doing a lot of rendering )
