well, i have an emachines that my dad gave me when half the screen cracked...yeah, its so bad it shuts down installing linux. it overheats quite easily. laptops are great if you arent a gamer, but if you are, they blow. my friend has a "gaming laptop" - it weighs about 20 pounds and is wicked loud.

Yes and no

Yes, we do have laptops available, and yes, I can easily get you prices on something if you like. However, at the moment, I don't plan to list them on the site.

Trying to build a custom system configuration script that interfaces nicely with our database, that can be updated on a nearly daily basis is a big project - and there isn't a huge demand from our customer base.

As such, laptops will be one of those case by case things. If you're ever interested, feel free to PM me or post with the details of what you're after, and I can always put something together for you.

In general, I'd like to know:

-Budget
-Intended use
-Priorities (great GFX card, or tons of RAM?)

That's the easiest way for me to get a quote together

-Budget: Depends on what there is to offer, but something around 1-2k (If theres stuff for more or less willing to budge on it though).
-Intended use: Its going to be for college, so some gaming, but mostly for scripting, and photoshop etc.
-Priorities: Decent GFX card, need good quality ram=>2gb (plan to load Vista Ultimate on to it).

Not much gaming, but if I game, I want something decent. Mostly going to be used for photoshop and dreamweaver for scripting sites etc, maybe the occasional game here and there, but thats not really important. Good ram (2 gigs or more) and decent HD space is a must though, other then that, as long as it can respond in a decent amt of time for photoshop and medium graphic-intensive games, ill be fine.

Sidenote: Are they custom lappys or from companies like Dell, ASUS etc.?

Yep, custom Asus laptops - I tend to favor the "VBI (verified by Intel)" versions, as they have a nice warranty arrangement and good quality.

I'll see what I can put together for you this weekend

System 1:

15.4" WXGA TFT Display (Glossy)
Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0Ghz 4Mb Cache
2 Gb DDR2 667Mhz
80Gb 7200RPM SATA Drive
DVD/RW Drive
Windows Vista Business
Intel 802.11A/B/G Wireless Networking
ATI Radeon M1600 w/256Mb Video Memory
4 x USB 2.0
2 x 6 cell batteries (64 watt hours each)
Deluxe notebook bag
3 Years Parts/Labor warranty with 24/7 end user support

Total: $1649.99

I'd say that's a pretty good system for you. You can save some cash by dropping the extra battery ($50) or the notebook bag ($20) if you already have it. I threw in the battery since I think it's useful to have 2 if you're lugging it around to classes all day long, and the bag was cheap You can also drop the OS if you don't need it too - I can change pretty much anything to suit your needs.

If you want me to price out any other changes, just let me know, I'd be happy to do so.

Is it possible to do the following:

-Upgrade to a 17"
-Drop the OS
-Drop the notebook bag
-Drop the extra battery
-Upgrade the CPU to a T7600

Drop the Ram as I already have some laptop ram

Are you guys getting a good rate? Or is there just a site that Chopes can go to and do this himself? I mean...I'm sure he could handle it if that's all you're doing...lol.
Just asking...if it's a reseller thing only...then I guess that's alright.

Oh, and Chopes....I'd recommend AGAINST a 17" screen. Especially for school. 15 is plenty...though I'd even go for a 13/14" screen...much more portable...and if you get 1280x800 resolution...you're gonna have tonnes of room... Just sayin, cause it's not a necessary investment with a laptop...it's all about portability.
