Default Best QT3 Quad, and what stepping.

I'd like to figure out if the Q6600 at QT3 pricing will be my best option. So
I wonder if there will be other Quads with higher OC potential at similar/manageable prices.

And if so what would be the best stepping, and pre-order it!

If you want quad core, I'd say yea, the Q6600 will be by far the best bet. By then though, who knows what steppings will be best I'm sure we'll be stocking them then though, so we'll see!

They'll have new stepping and revision. Because Intel will have a lower TDP than the current one

Intel Q6600, Xeon X3220 and X3210 to Receive New Stepping
Intel has informed its customers that the Core 2 Quad Q6600 desktop quad-core processor as well as the Xeon X3220 and X3210 server quad-core CPUs have been transitioned to a new stepping. According to a product change notification released on Friday, the three processors were transitioned from the B-3 to the G-0 processor stepping. All new stepping CPUs have 10W lower TDP - 95W instead of the original 105W. The new CPUs, which can be identified by the CPUID “06FB” (B-3 processors were labeled “06F7”), also increase the Tcase, a value that describes the maximum temperature a CPU can sustain, by 11 degrees Celsius. All three G-0 CPUs require BIOS updates. Samples of the processors are expected to be available on May 11. General availability of the units is scheduled for July 16.
Found this somewhere, and kept it so I would remember. Should apply directly to you.

Yes it does, Rep+, thanks... can someone explain the spec changes?

From what I can understand they will be spec'ed to handle 11C higher temps, need 10W less (load or idle?).
Also it seems that this would be a change in manufacturing of the Q6600 and not affect pricing.

The lower power requirement means that the transistors take less juice to turn on/off and is usually an indication that it can handle higher clocks.

_ my current 3.15GHz is basically 100% guaranteed to be surpassed with a Tuniq-cooled Q6600
_ benefit of a higher multi
_ extreme likely hood of a 3.4GHz
_ strong possibility of 3.5-ish...
_ small possibility of a 3.6-ish (+?)

Right?
