Talking TankGuys Upgrade!

After watching all the parts flying by lately, I finally broke down and upgraded my Opty 165 system. New specs as in sig.

Nothing too fancy yet - just an E6320, but it does the trick. I haven't had time to OC it much yet, but just playing around last night, I got it up to 2.5Ghz, idle temps sitting at 30 degrees, which is not bad, especially considering our A/C isn't working yet, and it was quite hot and humid yesterday.

I'll play around with it some more over the new few weeks and see what the chip will do. For now at least, I'm enjoying the Vista Ultimate and 4Gb of memory

A year ago, I would have - but between the business, and having a kid on the way, there won't be much time for gaming... so I think it'd be a waste for me right now

Good plan, then you can go for a g90 when those come out

So since you own everything there, can you just walk to one of the warehouses and take it? Or do you throw some money into it to make it come out even?

A little bit of both. On a very basic level, yes, I own everything, so I can take and use what I please.

However, for tax/accounting purposes, it's not quite so straightforward. Since I don't exclusively use the PC for business use, buying it with company money (i.e. just taking it off the shelf) is not really advantageous, since I can't really depreciate the purchase. Thus, it just shows as a loss on my balance sheet. As such, I generally "buy" the parts by paying the business from my personal account, or taking a smaller distribution at the end of the year.

If it was a purely business machine, I'd just build it from stock, and just depreciate it over 3 years, so there'd be no cost for me out of pocket

Nah, it's going as a hand-me-down to my father. Time to replace his old AthlonXP 2800+ rig
