According to a new survey by ChangeWave Research, 46% of consumers who plan to buy a smartphone sometime in the next 90 days would prefer a device running Apple's iOS, compared to 32% of consumers who would prefer a device running Google's Android OS.

Well, it seems that Apple has regained its preferential edge back from consumers.

I sure hope this isn't fanboyism, and they voted on real facts. -.-

Preferences vs what people actually buy. Android is compelling to many due to the avaliability and price.

hmm seems that androids work is far from finished. soon, once we have ice cream sandwich and more apps than ios, android will be the most desired

To any ignorant consumer, they would pretty much go after the so called famous and "best". Well, to the educated consumers, Android offers more, honestly.

I still don't see the hype behind the iPhone.I had the iPhone 4 for 5 months and I really didn't like it too much. No dedicated return button or settings button? Major issues with the antenna and Apple's pathetic excuse for causing the issue? You can't even sideload apps on the damn phone without jailbreaking it.

The only thing I liked about it was how responsive the screen was. That thing was extremely responsive!

I ended up getting an HTC Inspire 4G and I fell in love with Android.

How would it even matter. People want what people want. If they want an iPhone, then that's that, they'll be happier than if someone were to convince them to get something that they don't want.

I've had both, each has its benefits. I think I preferred my iPhone to be honest, but I'm starting to get used to my droid.

I don't like the style of android. And all of the phones I used there screens and touch response was garbage after using an iphone. I've been using the iphone since 3G and having a grand time. Don't even need to jailbreak cause it offers what I need, Games when I'm idle waiting in the car or just bored and a phone and web when I need it.

Both phones offer the same thing imo for most users but the Iphone offers it more neatly packed at a higher price. Honestly I see no reason to buy an android phone intill they get more organized os and phone wise.

Maybe we should create a new class of Power Smartphone users who apparently need to constantly have 100% customization of there phone.

I'd prefer an iOS device too

But the handesets are stupid exensive
The plans for those handsets are even worse
They get updated once a year. For how fast the mobile market is moving, not often enough IMO
Android OS is much more customizable after root/jailbreak

So I got Android

My issue with the smartphone's out there are the plans they are tied too. I can't justify spending almost $100 a month on any of the phones out there.

Looks like my best bet is Virgin Mobile after my VZW contract expires early next year. $35 a month sounds right where they all smartphone plans should be priced at.

Really, how does any of this effect us? We're all going to pick what we prefer, a poll isn't going to change any of our opinions (some rather fanboyist as well).

Me, I don't use a smart phone. With my job, if I was to get a smartphone, I would starve. So I use a prepaid phone. Nothing special, just something that doesn't cost me an arm and a leg every month. I also have an iPod Touch for the whole "smart" aspect. I have an iPod Touch instead of an Android handheld because of less fragmentation and the biggest one, I can't find a cheap Android handheld that doesn't require a contract. I don't want a phone, I want something I can use for game development, and Android simply doesn't offer that right now. Not for cheap at any rate. And that's where I personally stand.

Hey look, there's that argument again. :3

Well, the consumer market is simply too preferential to what's hip and popular, so choosing iOS comes as no surprise. But for the educated person, Android phones simply do more for less. Just take a detailed comparison of what each platform can do besides having apps.

I bet the iPhone can't even have a backup system similar to a restore point.

I'm an educated consumer, and I'd take an iOS device over an Android device. Android can do more, but I don't need extra functionality. I need music/media streaming from my home server, web browsing, phone/skype conversations, and games.

I know what all the stats and numbers for phones mean, and you know what, I'd take a webOS device over iOS/Android. I guarantee you that I'm in a vast minority there, but I love webOS and want a Pre3 as my next phone.

This just in, different people want different things, even if they're educated on the subject!

The numbers speak for themselves. It's not that 50% of people are just stupid. It's that Apple offers a more appealing smartphone.

No offense to anyone, but almost *every* reason I see for buying Android is something that the general population considers to be "nerdy" (but I guess that doesn't matter on this website). For the average user who just wants a useful, fun, simple to use, yet powerful smarphone, the iPhone is a clear choice.

Haha, well played.

Still, I don't get why people still tout the iPhone as still the "best" ever and pass it off as fact - when it's far from it. Specs alone, it has been overtaken already by the likes of the Galaxy S II, Sensation 4G etc. and apps originally exclusive for iOS are being ported to Android. I'd say it's one of the top handsets today, but simply not *the* best in its class.

So basically 46% are mindless hype drones, and 32% know what an all around good phone is.
