Overclocking Your Video Card Should Raise Your 3D Mark Score ... Shouldn't it?

First of all, every time I OC my eVGA 7600 GT KO using the Detect Optimal Frequencies button in Coolbits, my computer always seems doomed to freeze and restart at least once within a couple hours, usually more than once.

Second, when OCed, my 3D mark score becomes about half that of what it was prior to OCing it. Typically my score goes from about 3600 to 1800. I am using 3DMark06.

Why is my graphics card the driving force behind these massive random restarts?

Why does OCing cause a gaming benchmark to decrease?

Should I be RMAing my graphics card?

Have you tried some different drivers?

If the graphics card is making failures while drawing the textures, it will retry drawing it until it succeeds, and sometimes it just takes so long time that it gives up.

Lower your overclock and try again.

Also, try getting the 84.56's instead. They're found on Guru3D.com
