Great case, elegant style

Posted

Pros: Sleek, good cable routing, well built, fan filters, great price

Cons: Front panel connectors are short

I've owned (or done builds in) quite a few cases ranging from the cheapest steel cases to Lian-Lis and custom tech stations. So far, my favorite case has been this Antec (apart from my custom Syrillian-built tech station, of course ). Ever since doing a built in an Antec Mini P180 I had always wanted to try another one of their Performance series of cases and this was my chance. How it looks. I really like the look of these case. The gunmetal finish is very nice and doesn't attract fingerprints as bad as anodized aluminum. There aren't any flashy lights or windows so if that's your thing you probably won't like this case. The build of the case. The case is very well built and nothing I...

Sturdy case that is modular and pretty.

Posted

Pros: Nice finish, modular bays, decent airflow

Cons: A tad pricey, long

This case is, like most Silverstone cases, well built with a nice finish. As it is primarily geared toward HTPC use, the front door is a nice brushed finish and covers the drive bays. The power button is exposed which can be an issue if you have children or pets that might bump it. The door is both good and bad. Good because it covers up the drive covers and any other expansion bay items you may have. Bad, however, because it is one more thing to open if you wish to put in an optical disk or memory card, especially since you probably have it behind an entertainment center door already. It comes with ports for audio and USB but once again, these are behind the cover and not very...

Good alternative to canned air

Posted

Pros: Great pressure, infinite use, air filter, well built

Cons: Loud, gets hot after prolonged use, large/heavy

This little blower is a wonderful alternative to the canned air we usually buy to blow away dust. It costs a bit more up front but there is no loss in pressure during use and it never runs it. It comes with a decently long cord and feels very solid in your hand. From what I can gather, you are essentially holding a motor attached to a blower fan. It is built for one purpose and that is to move air. The blower is rather loud; I'd say it is 30% louder than your average vacuum, though that may be because your face is probably pretty close to it. It can also get rather warm after a few minutes of use, at least warm enough to be uncomfortable. There is a small piece of foam filter in the...

Great card

Posted

Pros: Cooler and faster than the 480

It is hard to rank graphics cards definitively as there are always new cards released that almost universally out perform the previous generations. This GTX580 is a great card made by a very solid manufacturer. I have had no issues doing gaming or rendering with it. Temps stay around where you'd expect with the stock cooler, 80s while under full load. Overall, this is a very able card though I'm sure the 6xx series will have a few models that best it.

Great mouse

Posted

Pros: Many buttons, great shape, great drivers, great DPI, cloth cable

There are tons of features in this mouse. Weights, cloth cable, fast or clicky scroll, etc. I use to have a G5 which Logitech upgraded for free when I had issues with it. I love this mouse. It is great for palm grip but I don't see any reason why it would be bad for claw either. The buttons are all programmable except for the scroll mode switch as it is mechanical. Even the DPI buttons can be remapped. This gives you lots of buttons and lots of flexibility. Great mouse.

Great headphones

Posted

Pros: Uber comfortable, cloth cable, balanced sound

Cons: Large and loose on your head, durability, vinyl pads

These headphones will be the most comfortable headphones you will ever wear. The wing support design means you will barely feel these on your head. They are large and probably aren't going to work well wearing out and about. The cable is cloth and they have a 3.5mm connector with a 1/4" adapter included. The sides have a slight blue fleck in the point though you won't see it unless in direct light. The pads are a vinyl plastic which isn't uncomfortable but wore out on me after about a year. Audio Technica sent me brand new pads for free even though I was out of warranty. Kudos to their customer service. In the future, if they wear out again I will replace them with the velor pads from the...

Good set of headphones

Posted

Pros: Comfortable, good sound, nice pads

Cons: Open design, 'tinny', weak (but defined) bass

The headphones fit snugly on my head and the felt pads feel great. These are know for being great for sound positioning in gaming due to the wide sound stage and defined sound. They lack bass in the sense that your head won't shake but they don't sound like a laptop speaker, if you get what I mean. The cable is a regular plastic one and has the larger 1/4" plug. It comes with a 3.5mm adapter. I really like these at home since I can hear my wife calling to me. However, that also means I hear anything else going on as well as letting everyone else hear what I'm doing. This may not be an issue for many people but it is something to remember. You can mod these very easily and remove a piece...

Best version

Posted

Pros: Has many features not in lower versions, clean, well priced

I have fallen in love with Windows 7. Windows 7 Pro seems to me to have the best balance of features and price. I would recommend this version. See this chart for a comparison of versions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/compare This is also the version you will find most often through student discount programs and other software promotions.

Great hard drive

Posted

Pros: Fast, good storage space, reliable

Before SSDs, this was one of the better hard drives available. Fast speeds and great warranty. Mine has been through two systems and tons of uses and still working great. Now you can find some drives that are a bit faster (Samsung F3s for example) but this drive is still one of the better mechanical drives available.
