In the 8 months I've had my 360, I've changed the batteries once.

Yes. I usually buy a new one every 6 months or so, but mine see pretty heavy use.

Using a 360 i was amazed at the battery life. I exspected 2 days straight trying to beat the game Assassin's Creed on rental would at least take it down 1 bar but it did nothing.

The PS3 controllers for me actually have lasted a long time. Of course, Im not playing games for consecutive hours (3 hours+), but most of the time I leave my controllers on while F@H, which I do alot. So, from my experience
I think the Wii's rechargeable batteries have holded out the best, PS3 in second, while the 360 in third. The 360's battiers never last for me. Could be because they died so many times. -.-

its all very well that the 360's battery lasts longer, but you have to charge them externally = messy. to charge the sixaxis you just connet it up to the ps3 and can still game on it. or in my case use one -> charge another.
although i hardly ever find myself charging my sixaxis..

You can buy a Microsoft play-as-you-go charge kit for 360. It's like $15 and comes with a cable that plugs into the back of the controller and charges as you play. It also comes with a rechargeable battery pack.
