Default [Kotaku]G. Verbinski making Bioshock movie

Quote:
Of all the games out there, I think Bioshock is the one that's the most engaging. I think the whole utopia-gone-wrong story that's cleverly unveiled to players is brimming with cinematic potential.

Yea but the track record has not been good. Everything by uwe boll, resident evil and tomb raider had plots that would work on their own, but they changed it to "make it more mainstream".

Come on guys, go easy on the movie makers out there. I'm not defending Uwe Boll or anyone else, but put yourself in their shoes. How exciting would a real Doom movie be if you just showed some guy running around shooting monsters? If you honestly think about any PC/Console game out there and how fun it is to play, think about how boring it actually is to watch and not participate. Next time you get together with a friend try sitting there watching them play the same game for an hour and a half. I honestly doubt you'd be willing to sit there and be interested in what they are doing. These filmmakers have to change the story to make these games into movies. Some of these game, Half Life for example, already have a great story line... but to honestly make it into a movie would be close to impossible in a 90 minute flick. Next time you watch a game-to-movie, just take the movie for what it's worth... a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end (unless there are sequels).

No if we want to talk about making a game from a movie... that's a totally different subject!

This director has a pretty good track record with Pirates of the Caribbean. Most of the directors who did game movies in the past fail horribly in everything they do.

I was about to say Half-Life would be when I started reading your post, but yeh, it would be a 3-4 hour movie.

I wonder if they'll come out with a game for the Movie. I would totally play it, sounds like a good plot.

To my knowledge, that's happened once....

The game "Street Fighter" spawned the rancid movie "Street Fighter" which then spawned "Street Fighter: The Movie ".

I think this will be the first quality video game movie adaptation. Until Gears of War, Halo and Prince of Persia come out :P.

John Logan, the screenwriter on The Last Samurai, The Aviator, Gladiator and more, is going to be doing the screenplay.

I'm excited.
