Nothing... and they DAMN WELL DON'T HAVE TO!
They are there to entertain me. If there is something worthwhile I think is worth taking from it, then I will. But hell, that's just like everything else in my life, books, TV, PEOPLE, the internet. I'll take from it what I want to (in regards to teaching me something).

Age of Empires taught me most of what I new about history. That's pretty much the only way I passed a few of my tests.

Games are there to tell a story and ultimately entertain the same way books and movies do. If the creators want to put a message into their work its up to them. Basically games need to be seen as an artform, not some kind of infomercial... :/
__________________NOBODY whines about love scenes in movies, even PG13 ones but the second a game includes one (Mass Effect) media goes absolutely bat**** about it. Its sickening imo. (Grand Theft Auto taught me english back in the day by the way :P)

On the contrary, I believe my reflexes are quite good due to playing games, not to mention my hand eye coordination.

It really pisses me off when people or parents/politicians blame video games or rap music for anything bad that happens with today's youth. They seem to be forgetting that society has been violent since the days of cavemen, even nature is inherently violent (albiet for more crucial, survival means).
__________________The only reason the world SEEMS so violent nowadays is that we have the media to bring first hand news of what happens in every single country of the world at the press of a button in a manner of seconds. Even 200 years ago people in Canada or the USA had no clue what was happening in some little tiny country called Turkey (just an example, I know there aren't any big wars there currently) nor did they really care.

Gran Turismo / Forza taught me about cars.
Goldeneye and FPS taught me about guns. Ace combat sparked my interest in planes. Flight simulator taught me about planes Stick RPG taught me how to waste hours doing nothing.
