Rumors of the Xbox price cut swirled on popular gaming blogs Joystiq and Kotaku last week. The two sites received snapshots of Kmart and Radio Shack flyers advertising the $299 price.

This is gonna make a lot more 360 units for sale, and they will probably, in my opinion drop 360 arcade to 250 and elite to 400, Sony has enough financial problems with the PS3. This is gonna make it worse for them

Thankfully MS has had no finiancial issues with the 360.

I think it's good they lower the price because it will force Sony to do the same.

Funny....Sony reported that they are already profiting off of every PS3 sold...I would just ignore them tbh Mike. When did M$ ever announce that they are profiting off the 360?

Also, Sony announced they are dropping the price of the PS3 due to a die shrink......this is the only reason M$ are cutting prices. If you think it is Sony who is worried and not providing competition....think again.

you'd have to be an idiot to think that MS or Sony profit off of the consoles. At best, and we're talking very best, they might cut even. The real benefit of getting a 360 or a PS3 into your living room is the 6-700$ worth of games you're going to buy, which MS and Sony get a chunk of.

My dad, back when he worked for microsoft, told me about how MS didn't stock X-boxes in the company store because they were selling them at a loss, so there were no price benefits to the employees over them buying one at your local BB.

Both consoles have cost each company lots and lots of money. I think it's the recent news about the PS3 costing Sony something like $3 Billion that has people in a tizzy. It's funny though because Sony sold each console for a loss, which is good for us consumers. MS lost money on each console when is RRoD'd, which is bad for consumers. Yet amazingly, Sony is still ragged on more. I don't particularly care one way or the other, I just think it's funny how shortsighted some people are.

They should drop the prices to around $150. INSTANT win. Sure, they'll be taking a great loss but still, it's Microsoft, they have money have money to spare. Their goal is to win this console war and $150 will do it.
