I played around with this update last night and the in-game XMB was sluggish. Other then that, everything else seemed okay.

Of course they lose all of their saved games and have to redo all of their downloads, but I suppose that is better than sending in the system for a $150.00 repair.

One can only assume that the update was the catalyst that caused certain data on affected hard disks to become corrupt, rendering the system unbootable. It would certainly explain why only certain systems are being affected, and why Sony couldn't have caught the problem in the first place.

edit: Just read El Mikes post. Thanks for the heads up. I would go absolutely crazy if my 60giger were to brick on me, especially because its not made anymore.

LOL if you are going to install this firmware. Just make sure you backed up everything (Backup in system settings).

I don't see A big deal anyways. I also backup everything before I do a system update

It should be. I have it installed on my 60 and 40 SKU's and it's running fine. Not sure what the fuss is about.
