Leveraging the recently released set of free services available in Steamworks, the Palermo Update adds 51 achievements to Day of Defeat: Source, player avatar displays in the scoreboard and win panel, and detailed player statistics that are integrated with the Steam Community features (www.steamcommunity.com).

In addition, this update adds support for popular features introduced in Valve's Team Fortress 2 (TF2), the PC title named multiplayer game of the year by Gamespy.com and PC Gamer. These include "nemesis/revenge" freeze cam and new effects driven by the particle system introduced to the Source engine for TF2.

Finally, this update also introduces a new map, Palermo, which is a remix of the most popular community map, dod_salerno, originally created by Magnar "insta" Jennsen.

Having never played DoD, or CSS for that matter, how does DoD compare to something like BF2 or BF2142? Is it any good?

It's really heavily team based like BF2 and has a similar flag cap game type.
More compact maps with alot going on makes it quite action packed.
It's a really decent game, you should check it out.

its not as diverse as the Battlefield series. like, you cant do as many different things, and the maps are much more closed, and smaller.

however DoD is still ranked in my top most favourite online games. it walks all over CSS thats for sure. watch the flames come in on that, but its true. offers so much more.

DoD focuses heavily on team work. its the same class system as BF, like sniper, assault, rocket etc etc. but on most servers, you can only have like 3 snipers per team, 2 Mgs and 3 rockets etc so players cant stack classes and it means everyone has to get involved and work together.

as you can tell im very passionate about DoD lol but i love it. awesome game.

DoD still remains my favourite online shooter of all time. I spent so many nights playing that game. I have not played the Source version since it's not free.

I tried playing DoD, but the gameplay was just too slow for me. I much prefer CSS.

But that doesn't make it a bad game. What people don't seem to realize is that these are simply opinions of games. Everyone has different preferences

recently got into DoD: S, css transplant, I will admit it. The game is fun, it offers a good team based game. While the classes are not as specialized as TF2, you really get to see that each class offers benefits and weaknesses.

The 'special' classes are limited based on the server and the amount of people on it, so that is nice.
