Apparently, wanton murder and destruction is within the realm of acceptable gameplay for the OFLC, but drug abuse is not. Anyone who has played the Fallout series in the past knows that use of chems (drugs) in the game was quite common, amongst both the players and NPCs, and was in some cases an actual part of the plot. According to the OFLC, the “real-world” nature of the drugs in the game make them unacceptable.

Bethesda's answer may be to produce a censored version of the game to sell in Australia that meets local standards.

In previous-Fallout games all of the drugs were both a.) Too small to be able to see them properly and definitely far too small to see them being use b.) Fantasy drugs, such as Jet (it helps you fly

) etc. which meant they weren't seen as encouraging drug use, as they weren't real/available.

It shows how Bethesda is going against the 'idea' of Fallout on many levels, sadly.

Going to be Oblivion with guns.

They've removed child killing (which was possible in the US versions of Fallout 1/2), they've made the prostitutes moral

(a previewer has said a prostitute in game refused to 'serve' his character due to being 'too young' - 19 LOL) The list goes on.

If gambling and alcohol abuse aren't possible and if the humour isn't right, it just won't be Fallout.

It's a harmless game. Who cares if there's drug use in it? It's fiction. They should ban all books while they're at it, too. Why stop with Fallout 3? Idiots.
