imo - they are getting easier.
The hardest game I have ever played would have to be Devil May Cry 3. Try beating that game on Dante Must Die Mode. I wouldn't be surprised to see you smashing your head against the wall and the controller smashed through the TV. I managed to beat that mode after 2 weeks of nonstop hair ripping retries.

Much easier, games have to appeal to the "casual gamer" now so they always make the difficulty easier. The only saving grace is if the game includes hard or extreme modes

GRID drifting is much harder than NFS Prostreet drifting. In PS, it actually AUTOMATICALLY TURNED YOUR CAR! if you were getting too close to a wall, it would almost always start pushing your car into the middle. So stupid...

They're becoming way to easy...Back on the NES u got 3 lives and almost no save points... So if you did mess up, you're starting over.

Well obviously they are much harder than they were, there is no debating that. Now, are games hard ENOUGH? That's a better question. GTA:IV had to be one of the easiest games i've played, Crysis is pretty much playable in your sleep on Delta Difficulty, COD4 is easy as hell on anything. Bioshock has been the only game to give me "trouble" and that trouble didn't last for more than a few tries. The argument could be made that Rainbow Six Vegas was hard on realistic, but that was mostly due to bad AI at times.
Now, the only game that I can truely say is up to spec on difficulty is Hitman Blood Money on the hardest difficulty. That was a harrowing experience when you had to restart the level several times after going through it almost all the way because you made one small mistake.

in MP i definitely think thats is true, i mean think about what have started doing in cod4. killhouse such a noobmap. but singleplayer i think is, obviously, getting harder with most games. who would really wanna play a game thats sixty bucks and only takes 2 hours to beat? but i quit playing consoles becuase i noticed they had to make the games ridiculously hard to try and make up for the limited space they have to work with. it seems painfully obvious that games would get harder as they evolve. we are basically watching the same devs get more and more talented. we only see a few new companies sprout up and make games, and those are usually ran by guys who split from the big companies. its not like in movies where u just wait for the next talented director or the next nich to come out. you find the dev that seems to do your style of stuff and stick with them. seems only logical that they would have to make the games harder as thier players talents evolve in sync.

Games are not too easy ever since games brought about difficulty levels. But, I do admit that assuming that games were meant to be played on normal/medium levels by default, then they are NOTHING compared to old NES games. Those games were far more difficult. But because now we have hard/insane/extreme/legendary or whatever, they can be just as hard (with some exceptions of course, some of those NES games were just plain impossible haha).
But because games today have more complicated controls and more buttons than just D-pad, A, and B then there is a more difficult learning curve, plus the introduction of the dual sticks could be difficult for first-timers. But once you get used to the controls and get used to a game then I think it's much easier than the NES games that are just plain hard. But it seems to me that most of the better games today are the harder games (at least the ones that are better to me), if you play without cheats ha. Like Grand Theft Auto is generally a pretty easy game, but sometimes if you're in a mission trying to accomplish an objective and a cop sees you firing your guns, or while you're chasing/running from another person, you may bump a cop car and then you have to accomplish your objective while running from the cops, which can become extremely difficult sometimes. And I personally feel that the GTA series' are some of the best games... ever! There's things about both that are difficult. And if the modern ones aren't hard enough, just crank up the difficulty level! ![]()

I'm sorry? WHAT?
That's hilarious? Games have been getting easier for years! Go and play Half Life 1, then play Half Life 2, and tell me 2 is harder. 1 was way harder, and that goes for all games I've played personally. Not only that, but the Wii is making the interface less difficult to grasp too.

Games now are too easy, way too easy. Back in the Atari and NES days, simple games like Mario required very precise jump timing and quick reflexes to pass a stage. Nowadays games virtually walk you through themselves.
Here's a quick summary of today's games. MMOs which results in endless button mashing. FPS where a player pretty much aims the dot (or crosshair) at an object and tries to eliminate that object with projectiles (bullets, lasers, etc) I agree, games now are making people stupid among other things *cough* .....internet *cough*
