Anybody see that thread with the guy that finally beat all (250+?) levels of PacMan and got a perfect score. That game is old as dirt and took only 20-25 years to beat. I would say thats pretty hard, even though the gameplay itself is not so much hard as it is repetitious. Not to mention requiring an extreme amount of patience. So I would say, depends on how you look at the overall situation is what determines the difficulty ( as already stated).

Games have gotten easier over all the time, not just the latest games. Look through the Samurai Shodown series, the fifth game is easier than the older ones.

Easier? Are you kidding me?! LOL! Games are a joke these days. Difficulty might as well not exist.

Didn't read the whoe article, or this whole thread. But anyone who thinks video games are more difficult today than back in the late 80s/early 90s needs to get off the crack. Go play a game of Ghost and Goblins, and then we can talk about old-school difficulty.
It is rare for modern games to embrace that kind of difficulty, but some do. Ninja Gaiden is supposed to be wicked hard, to the point of being mean to the player! Complex control schemes are a different conversation. They have nothing to do with games being hard or easy. Do they raise the barrier of entry? Maybe...but if you're afraid of a piece of plastic with buttons, god help us. I hope your job is flipping burgers at McDonalds, we don't want you to have to do anything too complicated, after all. ![]()

Oh! Yes! I love battletoads . . . now that game was hard. I was always pushed into the sharp tree sides. Gah! Then you had to race on these bikes . . . soo hard.
