Generating profit is not inherently evil.

The method in doing so can be, however. (Which is subjective.)

Just don't break the law to generate said profit. (A lot less subjective.)

I'm so glad you edited .

Taking away a freedom and slapping a pricetag on it isn't what i'd call "Evil"..... (ugh, i hate using that word..sorry, but heaven/hell?. give me a break)...just not very nice :P.

I re-edited it. I think the new version is more specific.

PS: I do agree that what MS has done here may be at least a little unwarranted (or, not very nice). But I defend their right to do it.

I would assume the majority of people who own an Xbox360 also have XBL Gold to play online, which if you do, this post is irrelavant.

he's just making a comment about how basically you'll be paying 2 fees instead of jut one. M$ is basically using Netflix as a way to force people into getting their Xbox Live Gold if they want Netflix on their 360. Which I find wrong, but there is nothing you can do - meh.

What the author's original post failed to address is that far more people will find this an accessible option. Sure, you could stream directly to a PC or laptop...but I want to watch movies on my TV, not my computer. And far more people have a game console hooked up to their TV than a PC.

But wait, he says...if you have a Vista or XP Media Center PC, you can already stream Netflix to your Xbox 360 for free. And while absolutely true, previous research has already found that a surprising number of console owners are not using these "advanced" features of their console. Personally, I think they evenly split between those who don't the console can even do this stuff and those who are, frankly, too stupid to figure out how to make it do this stuff. Either way, having a simple "plug in the XBox and it just works" solution is going to be easy and appealing to that whole audience.

He later updated to "clarify" that his point was that we have options, that's all. Bah, I say. His original tone was pretty condescending, and it sure seemed to me that he thinks that anyone taking advantage of this feature was being stupid. But as I said, all of those "options" are hella more work to set up than just turning on your XBox, the bulk of which are already connected to Live. So even his clarification is off the mark, IMHO.

I was glad when I heard this news. I've been thinking about getting into a movie rental service, and the thought of being able to watch the movies online without having to wait for DVDs is something i'm exited about. Makes me consider getting netflix since I'm already an XBL subscriber.
