Thumbs down [EuroGamer]No Demo For Spore, but it will Have DRM

Quote:
Nextstep: What kind of anti-piracy measures have you taken to try and stop Spore appearing in the wild?

Lucy Bradshaw: We do have copy protection, it is a necessary part of our biz, but we've worked to make it something that does not punish the legit owners. You need to authenticate once at the first install. This happens online. You can install on three separate computers and you do need to register for the online features.

Details Here

I don't really care about the DRM part. But the no demo

I really wish people would become educated on the DRM along with the fact that you only get 3 activations for the game. You get to install the games 3 times and that's it before you have to call an EA phone line that charges per minute or wait forever to get an email response.

Here's to hoping you have a stable machine and don't have to reformat all that often

really its that bad? I haven't really played a game which has DRM. Only the ones which have securom and Starforce protection. Other than that I haven't really dealt with any other protection. Games didn't cause hell to me. All of mine are legit and fully operational. Apart, from SC-CT. Which was a real b#tch to get it working. Random restarts. But luckily by updating the Starforce protection it managed to work .

Hmm.. their limiting it to computers, rather than use some kind of account. For many users, including myself, that means that if I were to play it legit I would have to buy it every few months.

/fail

I think that will drive more people to pirate it just to spite them. And don't think it won't be easily pirated.

The limiting the amount of installs is lame. It should be more like what they did with BF2.

But if you do run out of installs of your legit game, you could then pirate it. :P

Default An Open Letter to EA

Dear EA,

If you're going to use DRM, please use Steam. Not only does it protect your content, but it also adds convenience in the form of automatic patching/updating and managed installs accross multiple systems.

Or at the very least find a way to make as painless to the user as Valve.

Thank you
