The PS3's media server capabilities just got a nice injection with the recently released PlayOn beta. The easy-to-use client streams media from your PC to your PS3. The most exciting thing about the client must be its support for Hulu, the free video streaming site which broadcasts a number of high-profile network shows. For example, we installed the beta and we were able to watch NBC's 30 Rock almost instantly.

There are a few problems, though. The files are poorly compressed: a single episode of 30 Rock is over a gigabyte, which demands a rather speedy connection between your computer and PS3. The quality isn't too great thanks to the web-friendly MPEG-2 codec being used. And, once the 60 day trial ends, the service will ask for $30. However, if PlayOn can get the planned Netflix streaming to work, they may just have a new customer.

Oh the lulz.
PS3 gets both Netflix AND Hulu which is my favorite TV streaming site. Missed an episode of your favorite FOX show like The Simpsons or your favorite CBS show like The Office or CSI, Hulu updates their collection of shows every night. Best thing of all - completely legal as the site was made by FOX and CBS in conjunction.

Not that I'm mad because I have an xbox and netflix, but still.

I don't think it was ever officially exclusive. I've been trying to tell people this for quite awhile.

This is a client. Netflix for Xbox won't be a client. It'll be an added function for the 360.

Personally I don't get the hate. I honestly am amazed people still feud 360 vs. PS3. Maybe I just don't have that mentality but does it matter as long as you enjoy what you have?

Maybe that is just me but shoot I figure hell as long as your having fun kickin ass who cares? Now PC vs. MAC is much better those MAC people are freaks BURN EM!!!

So you don't have to pay extra to get Netflix on PS3 unlike Xbox360 (excluding Netflix subscription fee)?
