Essentially, those companies are now going after the people who downloaded the games rather than just the site, and uploaders. 25k UK suspects are threatened with a £300 ($563) fine. Moore of EA says its a bad idea and he is "not a huge fan of trying to punish [the] consumer"

Interesting. One has to wonder if it'll be effective in deterring future piracy in some way. The out-of-court settlement is rather small compared to what they might realistically sue for. I honestly never thought that any loose confederation of companies would actually do this, though. I also wonder how they found hard enough proof to convict these people.

I'm willing to say that it will backfire onto them, since they may not be able to provide adequate proof that they pirated the game.

Seriously, who downloads games anyway. They dont work online and theres no support and sometime they are a real pain in the *ss to get working.
I think the last time I downloaded a game was about 6 months ago but I already had had the game on pre-order for 2 months before had. it just my pre-order never got delivered until 2 weeks after the release date and I couldn't cancel my pre-order, otherwise I would have gone to the store and bought it. I'll never be able to understand why PS2 games and Xbox games could run off the disk, yet with PC games you HAD to install them. Its not like the graphical side of things was that much better on a PC
