Default [Joystiq]Silent Hill PC STEAM ONLY Confirmed

Quote:
Konami has clarified a couple details about Silent Hill: Homecoming's release date and its distribution on PC. Following up on some reports coming out of Leipzig, the company informs us that the time frame for the North American release is still September, and Europe will apparently need to wait until later in '08.

We have also been informed that Valve's Steam digital distribution service is "the only method of distribution" for Silent Hill: Homecoming on the PC. Konami currently has no plans for a retail box version, which certainly is an interesting strategy.

"The only method of distribution"
Hell Yeah!

EDIT:
But now, if you think about it, they should at LEAST have a retail STEAM box.

Awesome. I mean, I'm not a Silent Hill fan so I won't buy it but I like the initiative.

I know they would be reluctant to do this, but valve should give up steam and turn it into a not-for-profit company that all of the PC game developers can use to release games on. That will definately give them an incentive to make more games for PC.

I loved the first silent hill but I wasn't as happy with the sequels (the one I played anyway I think it was 3). I haven't seen much about this one though I'll have to check it out. Silent Hill wih DX10 graphics sounds pretty badass. The idea of only releasing it on steam is a great idea if ya ask me. Not only is it gonna be next to impossible to pirate but then they won't have to spend all the extra cost that would be associated with creating the box, manuals and actual cd's. For every copy of a game that is created and not sold the company loses a bit of money but by releasing it only through steam that won't be an issue at all.

I though Valve made most of their money from Steam.

Wow. Talk about a way of limiting those who can buy it. What's more stupid is that it's very possible to pirate Steam games.
