Unfortunately for pastry fans, the title will only be available via digital distribution upon its release -- though the term "release" seems to have come under scrutiny from Ben Cousins, executive producer for DICE, Battlefield Heroes' developer. According to him, the title, which is currently in closed beta, is already technically "released", and won't have the "big splash release" one expects from an Electronic Arts title.

Cousins explained that DICE simply plans to increase the size of the closed beta "to the point where every hardcore gamer in the world will probably be able to get a key if they want to," leading up to a time when the game will eventually "sneak out." We've never known a title to be well-served by a surreptitious launch, but we imagine the rules could be different when your game costs bupkis.

Nono, they are just going to slowly loosen up the conditions for getting into the beta.
Eventually, anyone will be able to register for it.

The beta was awful. You had to download and start playing from your browser. The controls were flaky. Most of the servers were laggy as hell. You're not missing much.

This sounds like they cba to loose money by completing the game and are going to just leave it in beta but make it open.

Honestly I had high hope for the game and when I got into the beta I was extremely disappointed. Servers were horribly laggy. You had to launch the game from the browser which is just silly. And the gameplay was horrible. Honestly with TF2 being as great as it is and the constant updates I dont see BF: Heroes going far at all...

You play from your browser- yes, thats how the game was meant to be.
