Default [FUD] Crysis Warhead is a memory hog

Quote:
Our friends over at PCGamesHardware have had a chance to play some Crysis Warhead on this year’s Games Convention, and they’ve found out it’s quite a resource hog.

The tested PC consisted of Core 2 Extreme QX9770, 4GB of DDR3 1333 RAM and a Geforce GTX 260 graphics card. Crysis Warhead ran in DX9 mode, antialiasing was inactive and the resolution was set to 1,152 x 864, but they couldn’t change the settings as the menu was inaccessible.

In the long intro video fps didn’t drop below 41, but they noticed that memory usage is quite high. Crysis Warhead game console reported that 2,146MB were in use, whereas Crysis went up to 1,300MB. The game, afterwards, ran at 35 fps and 29 fps in some more demanding scenes, but memory usage climbed up at 2,190.

Well, it’s still early to say anything, as there’s more work to be done on the game, but if memory usage stays like this, RAM manufacturers might rake in some nice dough, as 2GB simply won’t do.

I think it is a good thing the game is using up available resources. Atleast they have changed the code enough to something right.

Well, at least 4GB of DDR2 is much cheaper than the top of the line video card.

Exactly.

People need to get over the "ohh it is bad because it is using too much resources", when in reality, they are resources being wasted because they are not in use.

It will be interesting to see what other changes they have made to Warhead, given this extra RAM usage (More optimizations perhaps?).

On a side note, I will chalk this up as a step in the right direction for 64 bit.

I have to agree there. RAM is dirt cheap as far as PC components go. I have a 4GB system, and I would love to see most of it chewed up and used by a game.

40 fps with a quad-core, DDR3, a low resolution, a GTX 260, and no AA? Epic fail. I thought this game could run on a $600(that was crytek's goal) computer? OBVIOUSLY NOT.

People need to see memory hogs as something positive, since now you roughly pay $25 per Gigabyte of RAM, 4GB of RAM is no longer overkill and overpriced, and remember, RAM = much faster than Hard Drives so the less you read from the hard drive and the better the performance.

Its probably a bottleneck of some sort. That system looks like it would shine at higher resolutions.
