Their open beta is only open to pre-orders and people that were already invited into the closed beta as far as I know. The preview weekend was this past weekend which this download was for. Open beta starts the 9th I believe and the game goes live the 18th and went gold today

Having been a part of the closed beta, I can tell you that the beta phase of the game has been stable and more fun that any other MMO I've played yet, so in this case paying a fee to have the privilege to participate in the open beta is not such a ridiculous proposition.It's not like EA Mythic is charging a fee, and there are other benefits to having a FilePlanet account.

There are thousands of players in beta at this point so I don't see the difference between playing now and playing on opening day, other than there are often surveys to collect feedback.

Sept 7th is when the open beta begins. Although its going to be frustrating because theres a level 20 level cap and the character you start wont roll over when the game goes live...which is annoying.
