The two had engaged in a relationship after virtually meeting in the social network Second Life. Jernigan, whose avatar was a virtual woman, fell in love with a "lion" created by the 52-year-old man who eventually became her boyfriend.

After they met in real life, the man decided to break up with his lady friend, who, obviously, didn't take it very well. Approximately two weeks ago, as the police inform, the woman tried to kidnap her ex-beau by holding him at gunpoint.

Although he managed to escape this once, the situation only got worse later. Jernigan found out where her former boyfriend lived and traveled to Maryland – here, by pretending to be a local postal worker who was trying to deliver a package, she found out his exact address.

Since he wasn't at home, Jernigan cut a window screen and broke into the house. When her ex-boyfriend got there, he found her inside, waiting for him and pointing a gun at his torso.

He managed to escape and call 911. When police officers got to his apartment, they found a pair of handcuffs, a coil of duct tape and the woman's dog, tied with adhesive tape and locked in the bathroom, because it was making too much noise. After a while, the woman was also discovered in a parking lot.

"She is currently being held in Maryland as a fugitive from Delaware after county detectives discovered she had driven to Delaware and plotted to kidnap her former virtual boyfriend and start a new life together 'out west'." a police spokesperson said. Jernigan will be charged with attempted kidnapping, burglary and aggravated menacing, according to the same source.
