Home producer Martijn Van der Meulen gave IGN (via Kotaku) an update on the service at the Leipzig Games Convention, and during his walkthrough, he evidently stated that it's a "100% guarantee" that Home will be released this year. Now, as to what form that "release" will eventually take remains to be seen -- the most recent delay pushed Home's public beta into the fall, which means gamers shouldn't expect a finished product to launch this year (but then again, what online network ever has launched in a finished form?). But hey, at least you'll have something to play around with this year, right?

On a different subject, Van der Meulen also reconfirmed that Home will never have a fee associated with it, even looking into the far future. Premium content will have to be paid for, of course (such as clothing for your virtual self or furniture for your virtual living space), but he says the service itself will never have a subscription charge -- just in case you were worried, for whatever reason.
