It's not really THAT different from typewriters. Think about it. Typewriters were all over the place. You never really went more than about 20 minutes without finding one. Now they automatically save it for you with a checkpoint every, say, 20 minutes. All they've done is removed nostalgia (and I know, it sucks- I don't like it either), and having to manually save.

I don't get how it will work. I checkpoint is a forced save, is it not? Which means you won't get a choice, it will just save. What if I made the wrong concoction of herbs Let me use Rezzy 2 as an example.

In Rezzy 2 you have to search for the stones in which you put in the safe behind the captains painting in his office (I can't remember the details but I think it leads to the sewers....which leads to the labs at the end)

I used to get one, save the game and bugger off. Now it will just save if an when it pleases when I go past a certain point? What if I want to save after I get a certain item, rather than wait for a checkpoint/chapter.

...............................

My personal favorite moment in the series was when I first played. I played 2 before any other game, I remember walking into a room and seeing something zoom past the window outside...I was like Then you go into the next corridor and a bloody licker comes through the window and crawls on the ceiling...I crapped my panties I would have been about 11-12 then.

Oh and when you walk through the corridor and the zombies arms burst through the window and try and molester you, that was scary.

.............................

I personally loved the typewriters, especially on hardcore. On hardcore you had to save no more than (5?) times, if you could find the typewriter ink ..........those were the good ol' days! Now you can save all you like with no consequence.

Good point on the forced save thing; I never even thought of it like that. However, I'm assuming/hoping they'll give us the option to disable auto-saving.

lol, same here. RE2 was my first RE experience. I was just thinking about that today- wouldn't it be cool if we got A and B stories for RE5? The girl seems to be a pretty dominant presence throughout, so why not? That'd rock.

Yeah, ink was an interesting idea. You had to work for those saves. Now I'm getting all boo-hoo-ey because there's no more typewriters. Don't make me think about these things! I'm trying to openly accept RE5 for the action-horror it's become.

Exactly. And you know what else? This means that the game is completely linear unlike all the other RE games. Hell, even RE4 wasn't that linear in a sense. There was some freedom.

Think about it. If the game has auto checkpoints, and you happened to go through one, thats a slap in the face YOU'RE GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION /pat on the back - here is an ice cream cone.

Not to mention, if it's even possible to go in the wrong direction - you probably wouldn't be able to go back through a chapter like RE4 didn't let you. In all the Resident Evil games, you could almost backtrack through the entire game to where you first originally started - sometimes it was almost required. Of course, there was some points in most of the games where it would block off your little course to go all the way back to the beginning because of some plot turn.

That's nothing dude. I started playing RE2 and RE3 when I was 6-7. I used to stay up ALL night and play these games. I was like "screw the Genesis, this is AWESOME". Because of that, it seems almost as if nothing is as scary now because I experienced such events when I was a kid. Now, things almost pale in comparison. Except roller coasters.... Evil evil roller coasters...........

They burst through the wooden/boarded up walls in the RPD's corridor next to the classroom. Yeah - that was scary. I still think RE2 pales to RE3's scary though.

Every ink catridge had only 1 when you picked it up on the hardest settings. So you'd litterally have to stop, plan your course through the mansion or city, and stop to scourge for catridges.

Good to see I wasn't the only one who played through on the hard setting. The scary about RE is you never really know when you were going to die. Some things killed you instantly before I really had a chance to react.

My favorite was Chris on RE 1.

That's a really good point actually. If you can't turn back then it will make the game severely crippled. I never completed Rezy 4, it just wasn't Rezy to me. I mean sure, it was a half decent game...but it wasn't good enough to hold my attention all the way through.

I never thought Rezy 3 was that scary to be honest, but then I must have been about 14 when I played that so the scare tactics wouldn't have been as effective. Nemesis was THE best Rezy though, it was just so much better than the rest. Rezy 2 is the best for nostalgia for me, but Nemesis was bloody awesome.

And for the hardest Resident Evil.....I think that goes to Code Veronica X, that was a bloody hard game (IMO)

I think I may have to buy Rezy Evil 2 again now. Does anyone know if there is an emulated version on PC....if it is legal.

meh.

the typewriters are a tradition but to be honest i dont think RE5 will have enough in common with any of the first games to miss it that much. The series has changed an awful lot since then in small segments one peice at a time. Correct me if i'm wrong or ignorant but not many people have typewriters in africa anyway right?

Typewriters aren't common things anywhere to my knowledge.

Sam & Max had a zombie episode in season 2. If you look on the table in the corner of the zombie mansion you'll find a ink ribbon. That was one thing that really set this game apart from the other games.

WHATTTTTT. Typewriters in that game owned because it added to the atmoshpere. You would scurry around looking for one to save before you died lol. Not only that but you got a safe sense of feeling in a save room....you could pull yourself backtogether lol.
