Default [GS]TombRaider Exlcusive 360 DLC

Quote:

Grand Theft Auto IV and Fallout 3 won't be the only cross-platform games to see exclusive downloadable content on the Xbox 360. Microsoft and Eidos announced today that Xbox 360 owners will be able to download two additional single-player chapters for Tomb Raider: Underworld that will add approximately six hours of content. The first chapter, titled Beneath the Ashes, will arrive on XBL Marketplace around the Christmas holiday, with Lara's Shadow slated to follow in the first part of 2009.

Beneath the Ashes works as an epilogue of sorts to Tomb Raider: Underworld. Included in the chapter will be a new environment, complemented by new puzzles and a cast of unique enemies. Eidos was far vaguer on the description for Lara's Shadow, saying only that the chapter "will introduce players to a new kind of playable character and create a unique Tomb Raider experience."

Behind the wheel of Lara's Humvee will again be Crystal Dynamics. The California-based studio took over development of the series with 2006's reboot Tomb Raider: Legend, and was also responsible for last year's 10th Anniversary edition. As detailed in GameSpot's previous coverage, Crystal Dynamics hopes to marry the action-oriented approach seen in Legend with the franchise's traditional puzzle-solving in Underworld.

Along with today's DLC announcement, Eidos said that a demo for Tomb Raider: Underworld will be available on Xbox Live in October. The game proper is expected to arrive for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Wii, Nintendo DS, and PC in November.
Source

Overall - I find that greedy and wrong unless that is the PC, PS3, and Wii are getting their own separate DLC too. I can see one console getting exclusive DLC if its just a 360 and PS3 (or Wii) version, but not when its across - what - 6 platforms?

That worries me. Nothing easier that screwing up TR by introducing new elements that for some reason one needs to be secretive about.

Microsoft is, in my opinion, putting too much effort into securing exclusive downloadable content. I'd feel the same way if Sony were doing it too, so it doesn't really matter which company we're talking about, just generally speaking. For example, gamers have moved on from the 360 GTAIV to the PC version and are left with still no DLC. Yeah yeah, it's coming sometime, but will it even matter when it comes out? Will Microsoft get their return on investment in this situation? And is Tomb Raider really relevant anymore? Has anyone on here played the last 2-3 iterations of Tomb Raider? Were they any good?

I like this topic and what do others feel about DLC in general? I may be missing the point here.

OK does anyone agree with me that throwing money around for DLC is just plain wrong? It's like they'd rather change a game experience for bragging rights than stay true to the game and the developer's vision. Obviously it's the suits who are taking this money from Microsoft and telling the developers to "please develop this part of the game for the Xbox 360 only". I say either pay off the company for an exclusive release or don't do anything at all. This ruins the game.

I played Legends and Anniversary and both were great. I really can't wait for Underworld.

Ah ok. I guess I'm just ignorant when it comes to Tomb Raider. The last one I played was on PS1 or something.

whole-heartedly.

i dont mind DLC really, but as Omega said, as long as each platform gets something, especially with a game that branches across MULTIPLE platforms. its just Microsoft being the big bully again really.

i know Sony would have enough money to do the same thing, but they obviously dont want to as to me it seems they try harder to secure an exclusive release, not content.

im also out of touch with Tomb Raider, the last i played was the re-make of the original, Anniversary i think. which was actually pretty good, brought back good memories of the PS1 days.

ill probably give this one a go though, will be getting it for console.

Seriously, why would anyone care about DLC for Tomb Raider? You're just bumping off good news.

?? why wouldnt you care if you liked the game. its extra content that adds up to 6 hours of gameplay.

i think its stupid that Microsoft paid off the dev of Tomb Raider so that only Xbox gets it..especially when the game is being released on so many different platforms.

maybe I want Tomb Raider for the PC huh? If you do not like my news because it bumps off other news, then why bump it more? Common sense.
