On the topic of MechWarrior. For when it does get released, what do you guys think of when you think "sniper mech?" I'm hoping i'll find a mech that carries tons of PPC, coolant, and small. Although armor would have to be a weakpoint, so be it. Was too young to remember enough to form much strategy based off my knowledge of MW4.

last discussion i'd had about it, looks like the online server client isn't stable. old dev comments about stability were roughly along the lines of:

"some builds we can play a round for an hour or so, and others we join and the machine crashes. it varies widely from build to build."

don't think they'd release a game that has a 50/50 chance of crashing everyone.

Such customizations were done pretty frequently in MW4 (and earlier games).

Gauss rifles were a better idea than PPCs though. Longer range, faster projectile, less heat, comparable damage, and mech could generally mount more of them. I often used a Daishi/Dire Wolf with 5 gauss rifles (3 standard, 2 light). One or two volleys to the center torso would take out almost anything, and the first shot would usually knock even heavy mechs over.

No small mech can mount more than 2 or 3 PPCs or Gauss Rifles though. ER lasers are more appropriate for a light mech.

Just want to achieve medium speeds with super heavy, long range equipment. Long as i can cool it anyways. Want to be able to hide in the hills or forests and fire off some beautiful beams of death far ahead of myself.

Oh jesus..dont' even remind me of this bullcrappery.

Definitely an effective combo though.
Used to play with a guy that would just do a jump in the air, shoot all of his gauss rifles at once, and fall into the trees and cool off.
He'd always get you from the back or the side too, which made it worse, so you'd fall over and not know where to shoot from exactly.

I've seen a lot of posts lately here saying that this is vaporware or something of that nature...and I assure you it's not.

I'm a developer on the mod and I wanted you all to know that we are working very hard right now to get this finished so people can play. Mostly right now we are polishing and fixing some bugs.

I can't go into specifics but we will release a beta soon. Granted that could be 2 weeks to a month, but right now it looks like sooner rather than later. But again, don't quote me on that. That is a very hopeful "soon". It all depends on the stability of the game. A lot of features we want in, are not going to be available right away. But gameplay is there, we have several mech with several variants to choose from, and tweaking the damage/heat/armor/speed of all of the mechs is a big thing we are trying to do right now.

All of us work full-time jobs...(well most of us :-P) and on top of that I have a wife and child, friends and family to be with. I still try to put in 16-20 hrs a week on working on this on top of that. It's tough to juggle all of this, and we are doing things this engine was not designed to do.

Be patient. It will be released and hopefully everyone will love it. So far, I'm loving the playtests...

And again, thanks for all the support.
