That's your country, and you're entitled to pass whatever laws the people feel are justified. As a citizen of another country I'm not going to pretend to have the audacity to comment on your laws(something I wish citizens of the rest of the world would do in regards to the U.S.). But as a person who respects the law, I'll refer you to my previous comment:

when i was growing up, gaming was a privilege, not a right. i understood that if i couldn't afford to buy something, it was denied to me until i could pay for it.
__________________thus, it's incredibly odd to me to hear from pirates (not that i'm saying any of you here are, but i personally know more than a couple) who claim that if they didn't pirate, then they simply couldn't afford to buy all the games they wanted. can you all join with me as i do a massive ![]() as i've explained to them time and again - if you can't afford to be a gamer, you can't afford to be a gamer. so you'll play fewer games. trust me, it won't kill you. another one of their favorite arguing points is their insistence that DRM is illegal: once they purchase a game, it's theirs to do with as they like - including making copies for friends as well as uploading the games online. i remind them that they can buy a car and claim the same thing - but there are usage limitations, by law. you can't drive on the wrong side of the road with your i-bought-this-i-can-do-what-i-want-with-it car. you can't run over pedestrians, and you can't drive at 140 mph on the highway. it's your car, and yes, you paid for it...but that doesn't mean you can do anything and everything. they will take your car away, no matter how much you paid for it, if you use it in an improper matter. once again, boys!

ok well then heres some food for thought......... In China and certain parts of Asia , Piracy is not illegal atall......in any way shape or form...........are the people their downloading pc games scumbags? (guess not as it aint against the law their) And in south africa , general piracy , IS ALLOWED , and is not against the law..........eg : Medicine...........if a company in the united states makes a very good medicine , their is nothing stopping local companies here from copying the drug , and selling it for 1/10th of the price..............which they do........the big companies have "pulled out" because of their dissatisfaction with the law here , soo something like 80% of the drugs in south africa , are "pirated" versions of the drug......or "knock off's" in terms of the software piracy laws here , just for your interest , maximum "sentence" is R5,000 which is = to $500............... soo it is essentially "cheaper" (though not by any means right) to get pirated copies of the very expensive programs......that cost over $500...............and even if they catch you , you pay the fine...and your off the joys of living in a 3rd world country![]() Unfortunately stillhouse , I dont believe me and you can have a real discussion regarding laws etc , I know the USA are very strict with the laws, if you speed you get in trouble , drunk driving is a big ass offence , killing someone and you go to jail.............. in my country , and if you dont believe me , ask anather south african , but the police are extremely *understanding* you can speed all you want and give a cop $5 and he will let you go no problem , i dont drink , but most of my friends do , and they drink and drive..................all of them have been pulled over , stopped , and have gotten off with a "go home" and a $10 bride.................if you murder someone here , its a maximum of something like $5,000 bail.......but usually amounts to $50 bail..................... soo what I am saying is , is from your point of view , their is the law and noone should break it , and you are used to living like that................ but the USA aint the whole world , in south africa , noone gives a crap about the *law* let alone people telling you "piracy is stealing".........maybe in a first world country that might affect some people , but over here , save your breath. now , believe it or not , South africa , in terms of AFRICA , is actually a pretty good place , imagine telling people in Kenya and Zimbabwe to buy a game when they could download it for free???.........good luck soo my point is , is this "piracy is stealing " crap , just doesent cut it any more...........maybe some people will feel bad by pirating a game , but from where i come from , people dont feel bad about stealing cell phones or anything like that. soo ye....

I played the demo and it was alright but I won't be buying or pirating the game myself.
Even the most hardcore pirate should feel bad about pirating a game made by a couple of dudes like everyone else in here. The comparison on laws around the world (esp S. Africa) is interesting but not really relevant in this thread. |

"Stealing" a digital copy is different than stealing the real disk. As I quoted in my last post, in order for it to be theft, the victim has to have lost something. If I download Crysis, does the game mysteriously disappear from EA's direct to drive servers? I don't think so. As someone else mentioned, its not theft, its copyright infringement. Another question for you: If I download Photoshop CS4, even though I never have, and never will have any intention of buying it, even if piracy didn't exist, does Adobe lose money? NO! Its a little different with games, but like I said before, I buy my games.

if you download and install CS4, adobe loses money because under NO circumstances are you supposed to have that program without paying for it. you gain the benefits from using the program as a legitimate buyer would, without paying. the use of photoshop CS4 costs money.
__________________it doesn't matter if you would have bought it or not, you have no business using it without paying - it is a controlled experience and environment that requires payment to use. if you use it for free, you essentially OWE adobe money. of course, you don't have to pay - and you're breaking down society.
