The thing is that you have three teams here: the people who don't agree with piracy and think it's stealing (anti-pirates), the people who agree with piracy (pro-pirates) and the people who don't agree with piracy but don't consider it stealing nor are they so bothered by it (like myself).

The anti-pirates however usually consider the last two teams as one.

From my observations the anti-pirates are making the most repetitive and redundant posts when it comes to arguments, the pro-pirates have a little more variation in their posts and the anti-pirates-who-don't-see-it-as-stealing are trying their hardest to come up with new and good arguments about what exactly piracy is and why we shouldn't take it so personally.

As far as I'm concerned If you want to talk about piracy no matter your side you should know exactly what it is.
Saying "piracy is stealing" and other erroneous constructs over and over again isn't so much adopting a positive moral stance but not having a clue on what you're talking about.

That analogy doesn't work for the simple fact that food isn't software and it can't be infinite and also it's just a variation of "Pirating software is just like stealing a car" only with a little twist of having an infinite supply of cars - and that is a situation so absurd it's not even worth discussing.

Also I could come up and say what if some people were starving but didn't have the money to pay for that food. If they stole it by your standards they'd become thieves, by someone else's scumbags for disobeying the law and by someone else's horrible people that should be put to jail for the rest of their lives.

Now do you think starving people forced to steal food from a guy who has an infinite supply and also doesn't care about money should be treated with such prejudice?

I think not. You may agree with me but make the observation that nobody would need software to survive.
Then I'd say you're right, but then if food and software are so incompatible I'd ask you why you made the analogy in the first place

Or you may disagree with me but then I don't think you'd be put in a good light, at least morally wise.

let me get this straight. games with DRM (like spore) should be pirated because DRM is EVIL!

and when a game is released with no DRM, it's still pirated because the developers were 'too naive to include DRM.'



i wonder how pirates have enough coordination to put on their shoes in the morning. there's obviously some serious mental disconnect that has happened in their brains.

what i find heartening somewhat is the fact that all of these justifications still keep popping up. if pirates were comfortable with the act of stealing, they wouldn't need to justify it. fact is, nearly all of them have been raised to know stealing is wrong. they know it, and that's why they're so quick to deny it. "it's not stealing, it's piracy!"

To all those who don't have paypal / credit card: Did you call or email the developers (one of the two) and ask if there was another way to pay? Money order, etc? Saying you had no other way just shows laziness and short sightedness. I don't know who doesn't have at least one friend / parent who wouldn't be willing to pay for it if you gave them $20 cash.

Stop justifying it. If you don't have the money, you don't deserve the game just like you don't deserve a new bike (or maybe that gets stolen too) or even a meal at McDonald's. Earn some money and either find someone to order it for you or write the developers. I am sure they will be more than willing to work with you if someone showed some interest to purchase the game.

(oh, and the game is worth it)

My point was that you can't buy online, yet you found a way to buy all that HW which I am sure cost more than average if you had to find a place that either takes cash (B&M) or an online place that takes direct electronic transfers. That being the case, money is not really a primary concern for you or you would have done what the rest of the PC enthusiast community does and make arrangements to buy it online to get the best prices. I just find it hard to believe that you could not have found a way to buy this game.

I am not trying to pick on you or be a jerk, just trying to show (like the others) that the excuse you gave about only having a debit card doesn't wash. I got rid of all my CC's a long time ago and ALL I ever use is my debit card and I have never had an issue buying anything. (in this country or any of the others I have been to in the past 10 years) Some things worth having take some extra effort to get, is all. If you really wanted this game, you would have bought it. If not, I am not sure why you pirated it (or posted that you did)
