Wow. Ok, let me give you something else.

Piracy is a higher choice to do cause...well, it's so easy, so why not? I know it's way easier than getting 20 bucks and going to the store for it. What if you don't like the game? What if after you payed that 20 bucks, you don't think the game worthwhile after that, so it feels like a waste that you bought it in the first place?

Look, weather you support piracy or not, unless you're apart of the FBI or something, you have no power to do anything about it. Look, someone just downloaded the game, go stop them.

The main point of it is, it's gonna happen. There's good and bad in the world. So porky can say what the hell he wants, harsh words towards him isn't stopping piracy.

About stealing food and piracy being comparable, the answer is that they are NOT. Yes, they are both about the legality of it combined with the morals of it. But they cannot be compared because of one big reason: a starving person stealing food because they don't have the means to get food legally is different because they will DIE if they don't get food. It's a matter of life and death. Pirating a game, movie, or music is not a matter of life and death, nor is it a matter of any major aspects of life. It's just you wanting a game to waste your spare time and/or entertain yourself, so you illegally get a copy of it.

I do think that piracy is often overrated. However, when two guys make a quality game in their basement and then 90% of all copies of the game are pirated, that is just not right. I personally don't have any sympathy for EA, Ubistoft, or Activision whining about it. But when it happens to two guys trying to get started, who put a lot of money and effort into it, then that's just wrong. The people at EA, Ubisoft, etc. all get paid on a salary. So whether the game does good or bad, the people get paid the same. The company itself doesn't make as much money, which I personally don't care about so much.

Also, I played the World of Goo Demo on Steam. It's really quite addicting, and you should all buy it.

Have any of you bought it and played through the whole thing? I tried the demo after reading the first page or two of this thread and enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if I want to spend $20 on the full game. For $10, I'd have done it, but $20 makes me think a good bit more since I'm a broke college kid. I'm not planning on pirating it (I don't pirate games) and I'd like to support these guys, but I don't want to blow 20 bucks and be done with the game in 2 hours.

Also worth noting: I don't spend ages doing OCD challenges.

I am in the exact same boat as you. I'm a broke college kid who played the demo and very much enjoyed it then started to buy it before I noticed it was $20. And I would have definitely bought it if it was $10, maybe even $15 if I was feeling generous.

Go back to your dictionary and look up "steal", which is part of the theft definition you quoted.

Obtaining a copy of a piece of software without permision from those who own the rights to that software, is stealing. There is no way around this.

You can afford the 10,000-40,000 a year to go to college. I highly doubt that..
Unless it's a free one or something...

Honestly, you blow 20 bucks on a meal, or two. You could just go without lunch for two days and get it.

I can afford it with a student loan and help from my parents.

I don't blow $20 on a meal, that's ridiculous. I generally don't even spend $20 on two meals. I make my own food in my apartment kitchen from food I buy from the grocery store.

I'm not saying I don't have $20. What I am saying is that, because I have more important things I need to spend money on, I do not have $20 to spend on a video game that I don't feel is quite worth $20.

That's perfectly fine and understandable.

So you don't buy the game. And you don't play the game, because you didn't buy it. Or you content yourself with the demo.

But you can't steal a game with the excuse that your money is better spent elsewhere.

That wasn't directly aimed at you though, and I'm also in the same boat with the whole, "broke college kid" thang. I'd rather not spend $20 on it, it doesn't seem worth a penny over $10.

My meals are part of my tuition, I can't go hungry and save up.
