DRM never stopped anyone. If someone wants a game bad enough, they are gonna get it. End of story.

I disagree with the conclusion of this article. Free is an attractive price, putting legality aside. Free also means more publicity. I almost guarantee that if piracy didn't exist, most people reading this post may not have hear of the World of Goo, whether or not you pirate. It's voice of mouth, and piracy helps push it. It's free publicity whether or not the creators want it, and it's good for them. It doesn't necessarily mean the people who pirate the game would have bought it anyway.
__________________Such a high piracy rate is a good thing. I remember reading an article from the makers of an indie film who reported that their film quickly grew in popularity after it appeared on piracy news websites. It's also an indicator that this is a very good game. In the same way, this is true with open source works. I mean, take a look at Jonathan Coulton. You know, what those who pirate the game could do with such indie games, is put a little notice urging people to buy the game if they like it.

Never heard of World of Goo, and it's quite unlikely that I would pirate it, or buy it. I'm all for paying a fair price for a decent game, especially when I have nothing against it's creators/publishers.
__________________Still, I don't think anyone would necissarily be better off if there was no piracy. Most people who pirate games, and I do know several, would never buy the game. My younger brother has never payed for any non-MMO PC game, and probably never will. He'd stop playing games if he had to buy them. He's a cheap bastard and while I don't agree at all with his actions, it's fairly obvious that no-one is being harmed by them. In fact he recently stole Fallout 3, and it's his recommendation that may convince me to go out and buy the game. Anyway, what I always find absurd and ironic about these threads are both those who don't think piracy is theft, and those who denouce it as if their morals were some how imutable facts or laws of nature. Yes, software piracy is absolutely theft. Just because you don't think it's wrong, or as bad, does not change the definitions of words, they are not subjective. No, this does not make it universally "wrong". Moral values are subjective.

Considering the price i decided to grab it to help their little statistics. Probably trying to play the guilt card but whatever. Great game, great work of art.

To anyone who hasn't tried this game, I strongly recommend downloading the demo on steam.
Awesome game, and totally worth 20 bucks.

And piracy isn't really theft. Its a huge grey area, but according to Websters: Quote:
That doesn't mean its right, but there are some cases where piracy is beneficial. Maybe not with extreme cases like this (I think they are over exaggerating the 90% though), but an example I always give is Photoshop, which is $700. Adobe has made a few weak attempts at DRM, but for the most part it has been easy to crack. Why don't they care? Because by letting people use it for free they increase their user base. A larger user base means more people who will go on to use Photoshop professionally, and to use it professionally you need a license, hence the $700. I would wager that not cracking down on piracy has actually increased their profits.
