Dude, its a top 10 in best selling for the week not the greatest as was stated before. Also, plenty of parents out there buy their kids PC games. There were a lot of mothers of people in our general generation who read lots of Nancy Drew books and most likely felt they wanted to share the sort of thing they grew up with with their children. THAT is most likely why sales for it got it into that top 10.

So stop spazzing about it like a prepubescent teen, as was mentioned before its showing that more people are at least getting into gaming at a younger age. I bet you didn't grow up on hardcore games growing up now most likely.

Most young kids new to pc gaming start off on small games like that before they get drawn into the bigger market of PC Gaming.

Me for example, what did I grow up on? I started gaming playing Jumpstart 3rd Grade for petesake even though i hated it. Why? Because my parents wanted me to learn while I played. Where did that lead me? Well it led me to Fury 3, then Mechwarrior 2 and Mechwarrior 3, followed by Medal of Honor eventually, and so forth until I got to where I am today.

Just be glad that we'll eventually have new people coming into the world of pc gaming. People dont start off playing hardcore games right away you know.

I rest my case.

When I ran a GameStop for 5 years we sold quite a number of those Nancy Drew games. Had a few people that would always be waiting the day the new ones would come out. I don't know why everyone is so shocked, it's a top 10 for sells list. A lot of the gaming community is too caught up in console games these days and PC releases have suffered because of it. My store had 2-3 times the PC selection as the other stores in my district because we had the highest PC sales, but even with that it was still one of lowest categories for overall sales. Generally after the first week there wouldn't be that many people to pick up most PC games. The consistent genres were obviously MMO's, RTS and FPS, but even those were slow a lot of the times unless it was a huge game.

nothin' wrong with the list. this is NPD, remember? they don't count game sales online (from amazon, etc.) or digital distribution numbers.

I still haven't figured out what "NPD" stands for, but I did find out that their sales charts are strictly based on brick-and-mortar store sales.

So take the total number of PC games purchased in the US last week...

... remove anything purchased from Amazon or Newegg or bestbuy.com...

... remove anything purchased via Steam or Impulse or Direct2Drive...

... and rank the rest.

I can see the argument that removing the most tech-savvy forms of purchase will tend to skew the figures in favor of casual games, purchased by people who are comfortable with buying a PC game the same way they bought their PC. I can also see where bargain-priced compilations of older games might sell better in physical form than in direct download.

But without doing more research than I care to, the only real conclusion that can be drawn is that "NPD" isn't presenting a complete picture of all PC game sales, and therefore its published results must be taken with a grain of salt.

Actually I just came from Wal-Mart. ALL THESE GAMES have been on their shelves just about FOREVER. So this list really doesn't surprise me. Those of us hardcore PC fans usually get our games online or a GameStop or a small shop or something.

Really, this just doesn't surprise me. If these games didn't sell then Wally World wouldnt' keep them on their shelves forever.

And as I just read quickly, yes this looks like games sales taken from big chain stores that sell a lot more than just games.
