The first Bioshock doesn't have in-game AA option, I wasn't able to force it on my 4850 either (which is weird because I can force AA on other UE3 games).

Ok thanks for checking.

By the way that video was sweeeeet. I'm gonna have to play through (and actually finish this time) the first Bioshock, and I'll almost definitely be picking the new one up. I don't know why I never finished Bioshock though... it was a fun game but I just got distracted from it or something I dunno and didn't go back and complete it.

You could only force AA in Bioshock in DX9 mode. DX10 AA was disabled completely.
It used a special form of rendering that was like... incompatible with AA at that time and ~may~ still be. I dont know.

The only way to force AA was to rename the Bioshock.exe iirc.

I think you have it backwards. It's DX9 that didn't have it, but DX10 did. At least other UE3 were like that.

The UE3 uses "deferred lighting" which DX9 MSAA algorithms weren't compatible with, but DX10 was supposed to fix that. At least that's what I've been reading.

Not trying to argue or anything, just retell what I've read.

Thats the name of it

And Bioshock you could only force in DX9. To my recollection. You could be right but I recall forcing DX9 so I could force AA.

Other UE3 games though you can use AA. Gears has the AA option and you can even force AA with very noticeable differences. And UT3 also has the options too iirc.

~Hopefully~ they fixed that by the time Bio2 because the game looks to be the same everything.

EDIT:
Maybe it was DX10....
Now I'm curious. *Downloads Bioshock*

Considering Gears needed you to be in DX10 to use AA (In the menu at least, not sure about forcing it.) you probably have it backwards.
