Default [PCGS] Armed Assault 2: Graphics card benchmarks and visual quality compared

Quote:
Armed Assault 2: Introduction and Engine
In the military simulation Armed Assault 2 you are sent to the fictional conflict area Chernarus where you have to fight tactically challenging battles as an infantry soldier or with vehicles and aircrafts. The base for this game is the third generation of the Real Virtuality Engine, which as we could already verify uses multi-core CPUs and benefits a lot from modern triple- and quad-cores...

The renderer is DX9 only and doesn't have to fear the Cryengine or the Unreal engine 3 from a technical point of view: Besides the common gimmicks like Bump, Normal and Parallax Occlusion Mapping the feature list also includes Hemispherical Lighting and Dynamic Shadows which are Stencil Shadows in most parts, but developer Bohemia Interactive also tried to integrate some kind of Soft Shadows - the result is more pixeled than soft. The visualization of the environment is quite realistic due to the high vegetation density and the high visibility range of up to 10 kilometers. The water convinces with reflections and refractions while the waves and the surf rather remind of moving foil.

Jesus thats pushing those cards very hard at 1280x1024. Think what it would trudge along at at 1680x1050 or 1920x1200?

Tougher than crysis?

Such BS. Im playing with the same settings and a bit less view distance and get WAY over that. Thats saying I average 16FPS. Thats so off. I average well over 30FPS easy as I never notice any stutter.

DX11 is a few months away and this supposed uber-realistic game is going to be DX9.

DX10 was just a huge over-hype, wasn't it?

there was DX10 hype?

You could blame the game developers for not embracing the new better standard, But keep in mind many people still use xp so making the game dx9 is must, and a lot easier when they already know what their doing with DX9.

This can't be true. I'll need quad sli or xfire just to run my resolution.

Ya right there's one option there that they have maxed and I KNOW YOU DON'T! it's fillrate... I know you're not playing a 200% fillrate. What happens is at a 100% fillrate the game renders the scene at your designated res... at 200% fillrate basically the game renders the scene at double your resolution!

no one can play smoothly at 200% fillrate unless you have everything on low with a small screen.
