Gabe Newell specifically states that L4D would be continuously updated just like TF2 with new weapons, maps, and characters. Of course this turned out to be a lie...
um hi!
What do you think they're doing right now? New content! Dur.
Sure, you're probably not going to get new characters but how exactly is that a "lie". Seriously? Things in the video game business change at the drop of a hat. If you're having problems with this, then I suggest you buckle down because it's only going to get alot worse once you come to realize this.

In this case drop of a hat means Valve drops to everyone elses level. Well that sucks.

BTW I keep checking L4D and haven't seen a new weapon or character but hey I cold be missing it and would like to be shown I am wrong.
Now show me where it says Valve will not produce them. Oh, that's right, you've just presumed since L4D2 is coming out, you'll never get them.

Right, and you are totally rational.

Besides the fact that Valve is a great company that produces very good games, has tried to change gaming with Steam (love it or hate it, it's DRM is better than others, not perfect, but not as bad), they have given more free support for games than any other company, etc...

Ahh I see. Since Gabe now says they are not making, new weapons, maps, etc. Now he is lying. Gotcha. Yes I am the irrational one.

I will but I will have to locate it. The quote was on the Steam forums. Assuming the mods didn't delete it. If so it was in an interview he recently did, but I will find it.

I was mistaken, it was Chet not Gabe. The point remains though.

We have an update for the PC in the coming weeks with a surprise in there (it's not a new campaign or anything, I want to be clear on that), you know, there's some cool new stuff that you're going to find.
Then he goes on to say how L4D2 was to large for DLC and how they will continue supporting the game, had to cut it short due to posting on my phone. They keep saying content but then say no new maps/campaigns. This is why I don't trust we will get what they said we would.

From my understanding, Once L4D was released, the team sat down and started working on some extra content as soon as they had some data from people playing the game. They threw ideas around, things started getting concrete, like new infected, new director, new characters, new weps, and then somebody said something along the lines of 'its too much of a change to release in small updates like TF2.'

The new infected and new weps are made to work on the new maps with the new director, so releasing the new infected first, then the new weps is just stupid. You ruin the new experience.

But I still think the content should be viewed as an 'update' because VALVe used the info we gave them through L4D to make the 'better' version and are now charging full price again from what I'm told.

Here's my idea:

Release L4D2 as paid DLC for L4D, however, don't make it a standalone game [for PC atleast]. Make it so that in order to play L4D2, you must own L4D, and then just offer L4D2 at $20-35 and pretty much everyone whining will shut up.

VALVe will win because they're getting paid for their work
The players will win because they get new content
Those of us who bought L4D won't feel totally ripped off
Trust for VALVe will be reinstated
