Default [gg]PSP Go Gets CPU Upgrade

The PSP Go, reported via Sony Insider , is to get a CPU upgrade alongside the swap from physical game disks to downloadable media.

Past PSPs have had a CPU that could go up to 333MHz. The FCC Documents show that the new PSP Go will have a CPU capable of up to 480MHz. Like the last PSPs, it is possible that the CPU will be locked to a lower clock. While this is likely the case, the PSP will scale up to the higher or highest clocks only when a developer needs it to be so it allows which means better battery life then having the CPU at its highest clock all the time.

The past PSPs were locked at 222MHz and the increase to 333MHz had a very noticeable result. Not only were framerates better in games, but also more graphical enhancements were possible thanks to this increase.

We'll have to see the fruit that this improvement yields in the future.

And if they make games that support those speeds then what of the 90% of other PSPs people have?

I kinda want a PSP Go, but the price... with the money I'd just be tempted to buy a new Xbox, Wii or some obscure PC upgrade I don't really need.

I wonder what the faster CPU will do for the homebrew scene though

It would probably make it run faster than it's suppose to. I know with some emulators, when you had a really fast processor, the game ran faster than it was suppose to.

If they can hack this PSP. If they dont then there is no reason to get it over a PSP 3000.

Hmm this is definitely going to benefit those homebrew games. Too bad the design of it looks so bad I wouldn't have mind waiting to get one of these when prices come way way down.

Hmmm....the older one overclocked rather well....I'd expect this one to do at least 575mhz.
