Default [VG247] PS3 Slim Vs PS3 Fat install - Slim wins

Quote:
PS3 Slim Vs PS3 Fat install - Slim wins

DF’s posted up a movie comparing PS3 Slim’s install speed compared with the old SKU. It’s 25 percent faster.

The install’s the amazing 20-minute DMC4 load, so it’s easy to see how much faster it is. Good stuff.

Why are they making their old stuff look so bad? It's like they don't like it anymore. They're even calling it "fat".

I was led to believe installing a higher RPM HDD in the PS3 resulted in no difference; except with the exception of the heat increase?

I was about to say so cuz my game installs and load times were much smoother compared to my 40GB

No that is incorrect there have been reviews showing in a lot, but not all games the 7200 rpm drives have a decrease in load time and such.

Why would a higher RPM not make a difference in install times?

Because.... Faster RPM = lower seek, read and write times.

I believe he asked why it "wouldn't" make a difference, not why it would.

And as someone said, why do they make their old stuff look bad? Although calling it fat isn't exactly bad, they're saying to the loyal customers that already have one, "Hey, we didn't make it good for everyone that really wanted it, but NOW we made it good so OTHER people would jump on the wagon." Makes me kinda mad that they couldn't just think about this the first time. Not a big fan of companies remaking consoles.
