I'm taking a chance on DX11. I'm new to pc's and pc gaming but DirectCompute really sounds interesting. You guys are a lot more knowledgeable about all this, but, I'm saving my pennies here and waiting for the NVidia 300 cards. Friday I get my Corsair 750TX. Next month the monitor. Christmas, I'm buying myself a new card....

I just hope DirectCompute turns out to be something really innovative--not just hype.

What I am trying to convey is, at least there is some news about it. There are a bunch of computer, games, graphics, etc news site all over the world. The news articles will surely overlap each other. This is not something new. You can watch 3 different channels at once covering a speech and they will all be similar.

Many of those nice looking pictures you see are of course tweaked to look better. A picture is still and can be done much easier than many frames of the same that are moving. Yes, seeing a realtime gameplay demo that really utilizes DX11 would be great and it would also take about a year for games to full utilize the potential that DX11 may have. Just like the PS3. It took a little while for the devs to learn the new system. So, does that mean you lot aren't satisfied until then? No, the games will come and will be played when DX11 launches.

Anyway, promises are always made and if you don't read between the lines you will always be fooled by marketing.

That's not really what you said.
You make it sound like you know that DX11 will look like that. But you don't.
And those pictures aren't tweaked. They just simply are rendered on high powered systems that none of us will ever have. We'll never get that quality of graphics for years now. The PC is only JUST getting tessellation and ray tracing for games.

You can't even insert the PS3 in this discussion. Its nowhere even close to what we're talking about. Its 110% unrelated. The case here isn't that developers haven't used it enough, we're hardware limited. The problem with the PS3 and developers is its radically different SDK. Not that the hardware isn't there.
