"Why not have both? West does not want to include dedicated servers alongside the custom-built backend, stating that it would just "bifurcate the community." Although quite why "bifurcating" what is clearly already a multi tier community is a bad thing is anybody's guess...

i call BS, any PC gamer can pick a server, and edit filters. there is NO excuse for matchmaking on PC.
plus, the title of this article is biased Quote:
excuse me if i want to choose my server

I don't mind matchmaking, but dedicated server support should be in there too.

still not buying it.
not going to support a game company that refuses to listen to its customer base.

Im not and was never going to play or buy MW2, I haven't played a COD since the first one and hated the game play from go (any RTCW fan will know what im talking about
__________________ )BUT... I'll draw on my past experiences with multiplayer games, generally I buy the game install it and head straight to the server list, I then join a low ping high population server. I will no doubt go through a few servers until I find a decent skill level and regs I enjoy playing with, this in MW2 is going to removed which in my eyes is severally going to limit the ability for a community to develop and also damage the longevity of the game. I think the most serious issue, I enjoy reg'ing a server and become accustomed to the people I play with, and those people I get to know enhance the experience and make the game more enjoyable, now I will get thrown into a game with a load of random removing in my eyes a large part of the enjoyment. IW are not idiots, they are no doubt themselves PC gamers, there is other motivations for this change - Money probably been the greatest - Control content = no customer maps, mods, missions whatever = we have to pay for the DLC to get additions to the game. Also - what happens when there is a cheater, because we know VAC is not fool proof does he just get to run riot for the rest of the night? I hope MW2 falls flat on its arse on the PC! and tbh by the looks of things we are better off without IW anyhow!

To be honest it's people pirating games on PC that ruins it IMO.

Quite how iw.net will work and what can and can't be done has not been clearly defined. After an initial tantrum I have calmed down and am now in "wait & see" mode.

The reason people couldn't find servers, and the game was full of hackers, has nothing to do with dedicated servers.
Its because everyone is playing a different version of the game! I'm playing 1.6 right now, but a friend of mine is playing 1.1 because different servers show up! There is no authentication in the game, no automatic updates, and only basic cd-validation. Moving to VAC was a good idea, but honestly that was all they needed to do. They are acting like even with VAC, you still need listen servers for the game to work. They are basically trying to mirror the L4D system, only without dedicated servers. But the funny thing is that L4D's matchmaking sucks compared to CSS and TF2.

Pirating has been going on forever - SNES games on floppys, Chipped PS1, PS2, XBOX, XBOX360 and the PC - I don't think its that at all, its about how much more they can bleed us dry, and they've seen the success of the dashboard console system, and they are trying to shift the PC the same way.
